Capped speed ?

Good morning,

following a previous post, I replaced my Plusnet router for a Vigor 130 modem and Asus router and I'm now getting a much better user experience in terms of latency (using QoS).

However, it's seems that my connection is capped.. please see pictures attached.. I've connected my computer directly to the modem to obtain the public IP address.. the DS Actual rate is close 78Mbps and the Bandwidth test only gives out 69Mbps (I've tried a couple different ones and always with the same limit of 69.XXMbps) and US Actual rate is 1999900bps while ony getting 18.67Mbps.

Can you please check on your side ?

Kind regards

Re: Capped speed ?

Data speeds and line sync speeds are not the same.  Line sync speed is raw data bits; data transmission has over heads.  Depending on the retransmission level set for your line, that could be as high as 9% - see ::. Kitz - bRAS + IP Profile .::

Therefore your DATA speed test results are about right for your sync speeds.

Re: Capped speed ?

The line is syncing at 74.6 Mbps (KBD and RRT), no banding on the line either. Throughput speeds are always slightly lower than the line's sync speed. Smiley

Re: Capped speed ?

Thanks both for the reply. I'm aware of the overhead I didn't do the maths but 9% seems excessive ... however I used to have 76 with BT and reached 72 with Plusnet before (Speedtest.net) .. I reduced the SNR delta and was able to get back to the 72 which is positive

Re: Capped speed ?

Oooo there will be tears before bedtime!

Reducing SNRM tends to give rise to a higher error rate, so all though the bits travel faster fewer of them are good ones, giving rise to an increase in retransmission levels and possibly reduced data rates.  Are you actually suffering any real issue with the slightly lower data rates?

A greater take up of VDSL will increase the occurrence of cross-talk across the copper circuits and thereby bring about some decreases in effective transmission rates.  Its the nature of Physics.

Re: Capped speed ?

Not a "real" issue, just not getting the speeds that I once had (so now I feel I'm entitled to it!).

Agree about the errors, hence me still monitoring it and as of now (after 2h of posting last values) not really a significant increase in errors . I will play more around it to establish the minimum snr delta possible (currently -20) that still allows me the sync of 79997000 bps

Now:

NE CRC Count : 0 FE CRC Count : 251614
NE ES Count : 0 FE ES Count : 158392

FECS : 0 331234 (seconds)
ES : 0 158394 (seconds)
SES : 0 573 (seconds)
LOSS : 0 0 (seconds)
UAS : 31 49513 (seconds)

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated
