Engineers say I can get Fibre but sites say different

Hi All,

I have a dilemma that I am hoping the community can resolve. At my current property, I have a contract with Plusnet to supply ADSL broadband to my property as this is the only available option from all providers (Sky, BT, and TalkTalk don't offer fibre either).

However, through the course of my contract, I have had three engineers out to fix various faults with the line, these engineers have all told me at some point through their visits that the exchange I get my internet from is connected to the fibre network and I should be able to get fibre from the cabinet internet instead of ADSL.

The first two times I ignored it as I assumed not much could be done, however, after the third engineer brought it up unprompted today I felt compelled to ask to see if there was someone I could talk to at Plusnet to see if they could explain why they don't offer fibre in my area (KA37BJ) or even better if now that I have raised it could I for additional money upgrade to some sort of fibre package at the end of my current contract.

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

@cmcclymont Welcome to the forums. The easiest way for Community members to answer this is for you to post a screenshot of this page: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL - ensuring your phone number doesn't show.

Fix

@cmcclymont According to that - which is the official source - you currently can only get ADSL on the BT network although you are 'planned' to be fibre-enabled at some point in the future - but only BT & the Almighty know when that is going to be.

@cmcclymont

FTTC is called VDSL on the results. If you look to the right, it's being shown as "Planned"

So it's not available yet but will be sometime in the future.

That availability is a bit 'odd'.

It says its a Fibre priority exchange but FTTP is not available ?Huh

@cmcclymont could you humour me and try again but use the address option and enter your postcode, then select the correct address

@MisterW

I would suspect that OpenReach consider both FTTC & FTTP as "Fibre"

Re: Engineers say I can get Fibre but sites say different

@bmc AFAIK a status of 'Fibre priority' means a stop sell on copper based products.

My initial thought was that using the phone no wasn't giving the FTTP availability but I can't see why it wouldn't. Hence the request for an address check to see what that brought up.

@MisterW

Copper based products are those supplied via the PSTN - phone and ADSL being the main ones. FTTC is a "digital" product that simply uses the last "mile" of copper to the premise.

@MisterW @bmc

Further investigation on the post code KA3 7BJ appears to cover a block of flats, which might explain.

Where as a address on London Road KA3 7DD does have FTTP

Re: Engineers say I can get Fibre but sites say different

@cmcclymont  thanks. Seems my thoughts were wrong.

As both @bmc & @jab1 said , you cannot get Fibre , either FTTC or FTTP at the moment. FTTC is planned , but who knows when. Strange that the Openreach engineer should says its available, maybe the cabinet has just been installed and the system hasn't been updated yet.

Re: Engineers say I can get Fibre but sites say different

@bmc OR have just rejected an order for FTTC on a Fibre priority exchange here https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Order/Landline-not-receiving-incoming-calls/m-p/1882959#M23643

From what I can see your property is served by a fibre priority exchange, so there is what's known as a "stop sell" on copper products, which means Openreach aren't taking any further orders for a phone line or non-full fibre broadband.
