Internet Crawling

Hi. My broadband has become very slow tonight with download speeds of 3mbps instead of the usual 23mbps. I've reset the router but there is no improvement and the phone is not working and shows the message line cord error. Can anybody help please. Malcolm.

You could try  Plusnet - troubleshoot by text

If you have no phone or dial tone but a very slow internet that STRONGLY implies a damaged cable somewhere between you and the exchange (or cabinet if you're on FTTC).

Broadband will actually work, to a very limited/hobbled extent, down a single wire. Not many people know that! Phones definitely will not.

 

So you do need to raise a fault ASAP; as you don't have a working landline call from your mobile or as suggested above, text in. I'd start by reporting it primarily as a phone fault, which I think is a slightly different process to a broadband one.

Many thanks. Yes, I used the text service and they called me back. It seems you were spot on, there is an external fault and Openreach are aware of it and have said it should be fixed in 48 hours. Thanks again 😀

... and  ADSL broadband works over wet string  - and even fewer people know that !
