Issues with broadband speed profile due to tower block wiring

I live in a HA tower block, dating from the 1960s, with old BT wiring, which I cannot get renewed for the same reason I cannot get Virgin Media installed in here, post-Grenville, the local council forced the HA to seal all the electrical or other wiring inside fireperoof metal ducting and have refused to let and internet provider renew or alder the wiring in the building.

The only way I can get better that the current 10Mb down, 3/4 Mb up I get is to move out of my flat (ground floor but this is on top of a lower ground floor). I spoke to to my Housing Officer, and moving to get better internet isn't seen as a viable option.

Al least Plusnet were willing to try and give me a landline and broadband. In my first year I could only get 3 to give me a mobile service broadband of 6 Mb down, 1 Mb.

Can anyone suggest how I can improve the signal to allow me to game better as I seem to be the only one, with the new Xbox seies X, to be lagging?

@adrianhh11 Just a thought - can you get Fibre To the cabinet in your location? This does not involve any change to internal wiring.

Hi John

Nope, on the wrong side of the post code for that. Half HX5 has been upgraded with the exchange to Fibre, the half I'm in, however, hasn't, and as the post code has been partially upgraded, before Covid, we'll be waiting a while u7ntil they realise that the whole concrete jungle and tower blocks haven't been touched

Sorry about that. I'm afraid it kind of limits your options to what you've got - sorry.

Re: Issues with broadband speed profile due to tower block wiring

Thanks, unfortunately it does. I may have to look for another place to live as it's affecting getting remote working jobs and using zoom full system video and audio because of the minimum bandwidth upload appears to be 1-2 mbps as zoom defaults to a HD link rather than allowing you to set the speed lower.

Plusnet has given me the highest upload at 750mhz upload, compared to the offer from others being 500 and lower.

I'm gaming on xbox but I lag a lot.
