Moving from Plusnet to BT

If I move my broadband account from Plusnet to BT will I be able to retain my plusnet email account - either permanently or for just a few months?

In few word, @alan57  - no, you won't. Plusnet is not the same as BT.

Re: Moving from Plusnet to BT

Which is the answer I expected - but not what I was told by someone at BT who said that I would  be able to keep the email address.  Let me explain my situation:

We are hoping to move house in January or February.  Currently I have an ADSL broadband connection on a monthly basis with Plusnet and a landline phone with BT.  All delivered on the same piece of copper wire that was installed 25 years ago.  The new house has fibre to the property only as it is a new build.

I would like to change to a Fibre package before the move - hoping that would make connecting at the new house easier.  But according to Plusnet if I select a fibre package now for my existing property, via FTTC, I will lose the landline.   As I don't use my mobile phone much and given the impending house move that is unacceptable.  If I chose a fibre package from BT I could retain the current phone number, using VOIP, and then transfer the package to the new address when we move.  But I will lose my email address - which at this stage of the house move would be highly inconvenient.  What is the best solution?

Although I recognise that BT and Plusnet are not the same company - they belong to the same organisation.  I could just decide that I might as well take a package with a different company.  Hardly the best outcome one would think from their point of view.  But sadly whether I speak to Plusnet or BT all they are interested in is getting me to sign up to a package at that moment - regardless of whether it is the best option for me.  Given that Royal Mail will allow you to have mail re-direction for a period of time how is it that you can't do the same thing for email?

(1) I do not work for PN, I am just another Community member who tries to help others.

(2) PN withdrew 'mail only' accounts (except for those who already had one) in June last year.

Re: Moving from Plusnet to BT

@alan57

Assuming that you wish to keep the same landline number after you move then time is of the essence. The first thing that I would do is set up a new email address. You can go for a freebie provided by the likes of GMail, Hotmail etc. or, better still, get your own domain with email service. This costs about £30 per annum.

Once that's set up get all your email accounts transferred as quickly as possible. You can then leave your Plusnet account active until you are happy that all your important email accounts/contacts have been successfully transferredand you leave your current property.

You can then, nearer your moving date arrange the transfer of your BT phone account to the new address and turn it into a broadband plus digital phone service.

Sorry - I didn't mean that to sound as if I was complaining to you.  I appreciate the help that you have given me.
