Noise margin on circuit has crept upwards again

I used to operate very successfully with the Plusnet Router (N7201571B001163) at a 6dB margin. Lately the bandwidth dropped and I noticed the margin had crept up to 12dB, significantly impairing my use of the line (now below 3mbps download).

Is it possible to reset back to 6dB?

I'm happier living with potential occasional dropouts than with a much slower overall connection.

Re: Noise margin on circuit has crept upwards again

@skswales From your description above, I am going to suggest you have n issue on your connection.

First thing to check: Is your phoneline clear? Dial 17070 (preferably from a corded phone), select option 2. Once your phone number is confirmed, there should be silence on the line except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/

If the phone test passes, report a broadband problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/

Let us know the result - if the tests come back as clear but you still have a problem, we need to investigate further.

Re: Noise margin on circuit has crept upwards again

Ta. There was an issue on the line this time! OpenReach replaced a segment yesterday it seems. OpenReach phoned this am to check and I asked for a 6dB reset, which they did. Now swimming along at 4.0mbit! Yay. Makes all the difference from 2.5.
