Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

@Gandalf

Speed tests over the last couple of days have looked good:

BTW-20221012-17.56.pngBTW-20221013-12.34.png

but at the exact moment I was writing this reply I looked at the router and it was flashing orange.. The connection wasn't broken for long and it seems to be back up, but the download speed is currently about 12Mbps instead of 15. I'm currently logging the connection with RouterStatsHub 5A so I'll post the results once it's been going a while.

@Dan_the_Van

The only device plugged into the Hub One is the second router, which controls a different subnet. Does that avoid the double NAT problem?

@simonc2

Nice clear diagram! You are double NAT'ing

However it is not the cause of your line issues, it could cause issues in the future. For now I wouldn't worry about it if your not having issues connecting to sites on the internet.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Can you post the Noise Margin graph for the same period? As you say, something not right.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Does the uptime (top right corner) reflect the same up time the Hub One Help page line 5. DSL uptime:?

Are you testing connecting directly to the Hub One or via the Wifi router?

Dan

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Test was done through Wifi Router - it's too disruptive to use the test socket for a long period (ie no internet for the network while using the test socket).

I wasn't monitoring Router Uptime during the test but spot checks show the value shown on RouterStatsHub and on the Hub One status page are the same.

The router is showing an uptime of more than 11 hours now, so the problem is gone for now, but for how long????

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Thanks for the extra graph.

I was not suggesting using the test socket, but to connect the pc running routerstats directly to a LAN port of the Hub One.

With routerstats running via the wifi router you are also testing the link between the two routers so any drop on that connection know as the 'backhaul' would show up as a DSL disconnect.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

@Dan_the_Van You're right. Next time there's a problem I'll plug the pc doing the logging directly into the Hub One to cut out the Wifi Router.

Here are latest graphs and the data. There's a 10.25 hour gap in the log from 00:17 to 10:33 shown by the red line. It's looking very stable at the moment.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

So from 22:30 ish last night both graphs look how you wouild expect them to with the expected speeds and Noise Margin, so hopefully it will stay the same.

It looks to me the sample rate is set to 30 seconds, you can make the graph more reactive by changing the sampling to every 10 seconds with 360 points per page. Look at the 'Configure' tab.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Hi Simon,

I've just had a look and your connection today and it seems to have been stable since yesterday.

I've attached below a copy of what I can see in case it helps:

However I've tested your line and the tests are showing a potential issue with the lead-in wiring into your property, so I'd like to call out an Openreach engineer to have a closer look. If you're okay with this, when could you be available for a visit? The engineers work weekdays and occasionally Saturday's 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Hi @Gandalf

Many thanks for your attention to this issue and apologies for the delayed reply.

For an engineer visit we can do any morning after 9 (preferably after 10) or Monday or Friday afternoon. Do you need any further information about the property or can you get all that from the account details?

We had an issue with the cabling to the house in March 2010 when the insulation on the cable from the nearest pole had been worn away by rubbing against tree branches. They replaced the cable from the pole at that time.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Update: I was called today by plusnet who are sending an engineer, at first just to check the connection accessible outside the property then, if necessary, to enter and examine.the connections inside.

Re: Plusnet broadband unlimited keeps dropping out this afternoon

Hi Simon,

No worries, and thanks for the info. Smiley

I've just checked the fault we've raised with our suppliers and they've asked us to book an appointment.

I'm afraid I can't narrow down the timeslots of 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm, so would there be weekday when someone could be home to let an engineer in for one of these slots? Really sorry for the inconvenience. Sad

Cheers

Any morning is ok, as long as we know in advance.

Thanks.
