Slow speeds, possibly fixed the issue, DLM reset?

Hi all,

My relatives VDSL connection has been flaky for some time. We appeared to fix it back on BT where OR came and replaced everything from NTE5 to pole.

Joining Plusnet, it appears to have gone a bit pants again for some reason (a company has been here fitting full fiber, so entirely possibly they've disturbed something on the pole). The only other thing I could think of, after reading online, was to change the DSL cable from the massive long coil of un-twisted phone cable, to a CAT5E twisted pair cable, that is just long enough to go between router and socket (with a single twisted pair carrying the signal). The router lives in the TV corner, with lots of power cables/adapters, and its unfortunately not able to be relocated elsewhere.

It appears to have synced now back at 34.999 down and 7.2 up, which is higher than it was connected at previously, but can the DLM/management be reset so we can try again from the highest speed we're meant to get? Is it best to phone, or can someone contact me on here and do it this way?

Cheers!

@Sparxoo

You can check here is Full Fibre is available via OpenReach. You're looking for WBC FTTP in the left hand column and Available to the right. The second link will show if FTTP is planned.

Hi,
This isn't a full fibre problem, it is FTTC?

Thanks

@Sparxoo

Apologies. It was the mention of full fibre in your OP that spurred me to move the thread.

It's back in Broadband now.

No problem!

As much as I want to go to a FTTP connection as itd probably solve the issue, my relatives are still in contract til later this year.

As far as I'm aware moving to a full fibre contract with Plusnet involves taking out a new contract without having to pay off the old one.

Mav, you appear to have only moved my comment onwards, not the entire thread

Re: Slow speeds, possibly fixed the issue, DLM reset?

Plusnet unfortunately aren't the company that has just installed the lines yet, otherwise we would almost immediately jump (after sorting the VOIP solution for the landline).

Unless the fibre companies are going to go down the route like Openreach where they lease out to provider of choice?

Re: Slow speeds, possibly fixed the issue, DLM reset?

@Sparxoo

PlusNet do not install fibre - they lease the line from OpenReach via BT Wholesale.

If it is an OpenReach network install then it would appear there's still work to be done elsewhere to bring it live.

If it's not an OR install then PN will not be able to offer FTTP as they only lease lines from BT Wholesale.

If it is OR, then you can't upgrade to FTTP while keeping the exisiting phone number via VOIP.
