Technicolor TG582n Wi-Fi speed increase? for the internal metwork

Hi all,
Can I increase the speed of my internal WiFi (to access my NAS)?
if I look in the adapter properties of my laptop I am connecting at 130 mbps (not 3000 mbps - not that I ever expect to connect at 300  )
can I increase this at all?
Is there some setting in the router that I can turn on to bond two channels together or some such magic?
I see 2x2 in the spec of my wifi adapter and the router, does this mean I can have two lots of 150 mbps to give me 300 mbps (in theory - I don't expect the full wack)
Any speed increase would be nice when I am working on video files on the NAS

I have the supplied Fibre modem and Router from Plusnet
The wifi router is a Technicolor TG582n
In the feature list of the router spec it states;
Wireless networking on-board: 802.11n 2x2 (2.4 GHz)

My Laptop has the following WiFi adapter that can work upto 300 Mbps
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
Dual-Stream, Dual Band 802.11a/g/n 2x2 and 2.4/5 GHz
Delivers up to 300 Mbps speed with dual streams (2x2)
Thanks

Need to use telnet to make the changes -- you'll find the necessary commands here:

Re: Technicolor TG582n Wi-Fi speed increase? for the internal metwork

Thank you
I now understand why i am getting a speed of 130 mbps, it's the default speed.
i am a bit worried about the warning...
When in 270(n) or 300(n) mode the router is not very good at switching off the extra channels when not needed or when it may cause interference to other wireless access points.
For this reason please use these modes responsibly.
does this mean i may cause issues for my neighbours?
Is this warning applicable to all 300n routers?
or is this router just particulrly bad it this?
thanks again

Using 40MHz is not guaranteed to improve the actual useful speed anyway: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-basics/30664-5-ways-to-fix-slow-80211n-speed

Re: Technicolor TG582n Wi-Fi speed increase? for the internal metwork

My opinion from the few 300 mbps routers I've tried -- All 300 mbps wireless can be a problem to neighbours in varying degrees.  In the worst case they spread across channels 1 to  8 almost all the time. The better behaved ones will use channel 1 (1 to 3) and just extend to channel 6 (1 to 8 ) for short times.
You could install inSSIDer and check for your self which channels, and for how long, the 300 mbps mode is using. It will also show the channels used by your neighbours to help you guess any impact on them.

Re: Technicolor TG582n Wi-Fi speed increase? for the internal metwork

That's useful info thanks
I have an app on my phone which shows nearby Wi-Fi and the channels
There are about 6 devices nearby, all in the 2.4 GHz band
There are non in the 5GHz band
So if I can find a N300 Access Point that has 5 GHz and a 1 Gig port then I could plug this into my 1 gig switch and I (and I alone) can use that access point at 5 GHz and, hopefully 300 mbps, and my son can continue to use the Access Point in the router at 2.4 GHz at 130 mbps.
So I would hope to see a speed increase in access to my NAS without upsetting my neighbours - until they move to 5 GHZ anyway
I think!!
