Stability doesnt seem to be a problem even at around 3 its just I would like the speed to be nearer 2 than 1
I intend to switch off for a few minutes so not a drop out

I can assure you that there will be no plans to bring fibre to where I actually live for a very long time Unless of course the PM or some such moves next door

I had considered suggesting trying ADSL1 a few posts ago, but the article I linked to on the fall off of the various modulations with distance suggested that ADSL1 dies at 5km - 1.5km shorter than the reported length of this line.
The only pragmatic way forward I see here is to do as the user wishes. Set the target SNRM to 3dB than step back and watch what happens.
Given what is known about the line, it’s length and it’s history, it would be reasonable to anticipate that the sync speed might be a little faster, but with more frequent disconnections and due to data retransmission for higher levels of error recovery, a somewhat lower data throughput rate. In short, possibly a poorer experience. If that turns out to be the case then there’s a choice to be made - stick with a very unstable service or revert to a more stable service at a slightly slower sync speed.
Driving at 86mph down rural country lanes is simply not a viable expectation … and has nothing to do with the provider of the car … but everything to do with the state of the windy road.

Did you actually look at the link and put your post code in?

Ah yeah, that makes sense. I read through the whole thread before replying, but it is fairly long and it's also a Sunday.
Let's see how the line fares at 3dB, but I do agree that the line would likely fall over itself in trying to provide more speed.

We're sorry, our fibre products aren't available for you yet.
We don’t have plans to upgrade your area yet to our fibre services, but you may still be able to get our Standard copper products - check with your provider of choice.
We're upgrading millions of homes and businesses over the next decade to our Ultrafast Full Fibre network, giving speeds of up to 1Gbps.
We update our build plans every three months, so provide your details and we'll keep you up to date if anything changes.

Can you please post the new router stats?
Slower in what way - DATA speed tests or line sync speed?
If the line sync speed is up, yet the data throughput speed is down, then as predicted it would appear that a faster sync rate is delivering a higher error rate and thereby a lower error free effective transfer rate.

Compared with post #62...
Was 1871kbps @6.1dB
Now 2446kbps @3.3dB
20% faster sync ... but apparently a slower usable data throughput?
If the stable, usable data speed is lower, then I rest the case for the questionable wisdom of trying to run a faster line sync speed on such a long line.
Do you have before and after DATA speed test results?

Hello @stathe
I'm pleasantly surprised, for now anyway, on how the line appears to be performing when testing it this afternoon. Let's hope things remain the same for the foreseeable future
A potential cause for concern though is the MTBE on both the upstream and the downstream, if this starts resulting in retrains, you may be best off increasing the SNR back to 6dB. Keep and eye on things though and let us know if you have any issues at all.

Most recent speed test is the same as that at the start of January before the change. That infers that the increased sync speed / error rate has not changed the usable data throughput.
