Zip.& Txt. But we managed alright with the small selection on SMF. I'm not sure we should allow Word or Excel unzipped? There should be a size limit.

The problem with zip files is that you can completely bypass the file extension filter by putting whatever you want into the zip file...
I could zip up a folder of files that contained .exe or .bat files that would do nasty things to your computer if you were to run them accidentally..

Must admit, office documents make me nervous.
Personally, I'd question anything that wasn't permitted on the SMF install:

I would exclude office documents as it is relatively easy to add a nasty to them
In addition to images and pdf I would include the various wireshark formats

@bobpullen I'm pretty sure that's what me and Chris checked when setting the formats on staging, just including .gif as well

I'd agree with excluding .exe and .bat but .zip files do require 'user input' to extract files so are not generally a direct risk of accidentally doing something nasty.
At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.

Okay so file extensions aren't an issue.
The real issue really is that you guys would like to have some kind of file attachment funcitonality included in private messages. I might be able to do this myself by reusing the file attachment component on posts but I have a feeling it will be more involved than that and would need to raise a support ticket with Lihtium to get something like that implemented.
It's on my list!

Have just had confirmation back from Lithium on this one.
Whilst it isn't possible at this moment in time, the Products team have confirmed they're working on implementing this in the future. I'll keep an eye on release notes and update once they've confirmed dates.
