Error with notification count

I will do the same on both my machines tonight, and see what tomorrow brings.

Just had a thought - my iPad - running Firefox as default browser too, did not give '101 Dalmations' when I logged in just now, but the FF browser on the W7 laptop did when I opened it - 4+ hours after having opened the Linux machine

Logged out and deleted Plusnet cookies. I guess I'll see how it goes.

I've had 101 notifications every day since 22nd October, but today 10th November it changed to 97

@JonoH Having logged out on both machines last night, I did not get the '101' this morning - but the correct number of notifications.

Will stay logged in, as usual, tonight and see if the issue is cleared tomorrow.

I was running late yesterday and forgot to check.

I was later than usual again today, and didn't see it on my first page refresh.

I'm more or less permanently logged in.

OT, is tinkering causing something to happen giving false readings on the Who's Online section?

I'm presently seeing 141* members, way above normal numbers.

Following yesterday's comments, I did log out on the laptop logged back in forgetting to tick stay logged in.  I logged in again later remembering to tick stay logged in.

having returned to the session this morning and clicking refresh page, I now have 101 notices notified.  Somewhat looks like an issue in the keep session alive logic.

Erroneous count now showing on the iPhone.

I think I might have set that to stay logged in last time I connected.  Easy to get confused with the iPhone status as I suspect that a change of IP address (move from home to 3/4G) automatically trashes the current session.

@Townman I logged out on both my laptops last night, logged in this morning to be greeted with only 5 - correct - notifications.

Will stay logged in , as usual, tonight and see what tomorrow brings - hopefully not 101 Dalmatians. 😉

Would I be wrong in thinking the phantom notifications only turn up if there are no real notifications.

@billnotben Yes, you would be wrong. 😉 . I usually have notifications in a morning from late-night replies to followed topics.

Having followed protocol set out by @JonoH I see this morning that for me the 101 is still appearing as evidenced by the following screen capture. It should be noted that yesterday when I logged in this wasn't the case as I hadn't set the 'remember me' option from the previous day's login after the reset. Is this significant as suggested by @Townman?
