If that is so, then I refer to the title of this thread....

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Well, it is "partially" ok for me... as it does allow me to remain "signed in" for more than an hour, provided that,..... I don`t close the site ... then I have to sign in again, even if it were only closed by accident for 30 seconds..

Out of interest - given your settings - do you actually have any cookies stored after you close then open Firefox

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Something that happens on this site that never seemed to on the old one is that if I am logged in on one device, say PC, then log in on the tablet, laptop or phone, it kicks me out of the first one.

Previously I could be logged in on all devices at the same time.

Not sure how that is relevant to to OP's situation but thought I'd mention itWink

I'm currently logged in twice, this session on my phone replying here and the other on my PC showing who's online (I only see myself once!)

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Something is clearly broken with the keep me signed in functionality.

Some of my sessions are staying signed in pretty much permanently and when they do eventually sign out the keep me signed in functionality does nothing and signs me out on browser exit.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Well, yesterday I was signed in on 3 devices at the same time and didn't get kicked off any.
Whether you told the browser to remember your password may also have a bearing as well as whether your IP address has changed.
I haven't yet discovered any pattern with those that have reported problems in the other thread.
Oldjim made some valid points as well, Private Browsing will not help either.

@shutter try clearing all your cookies and your caches and then see if things are the same then with eBay and here using only Private Browsing.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Cookies, the use of, storage of, and what they actually do, is a complete mystery to me... I accept cookies on all webistes, purely because I think that if I didn`t accept them, then the website would not work... true ?  I don`t know.,

I use CCleaner every night ( almost ) when I shut down the computer,  but I don`t use it during the day...

My original comparison between Ebay and Plusnet is that Ebay will "Keep me logged in" without me asking it/telling it, or doing anything with the settings on Firefox.

Plusnet will ask me "keep me logged in" and I put a tick in the box, and as sure as eggs get broken when dropped, if I close Plusnet and then open another Plusnet page, it will ask me to sign in again... so.... to quote my original title... What is the Point... ?

Nothing is done with the settings on Firefox... they have been set up from the start of using this HDD and version of Windows 7 professiona, and ( at that time the latest version of FIrefox).  always updated FF whenever it needs it.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

My experience is not dissimilar from @Anotherone's most of the time on most of my devices, both singularly and concurrently I am kept signed in between sessions, though I rarely upload the browsers.  Even where I do unload the browser (Edge on win10) my always logged in status pervades.

However from time to time I do get logged out or rather the stay logged in status is lost.  Not yet found a pattern, but generally this functionality works as designed.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Found myself logged out of the community this morning both on PC (Win7, IE11) and tablet (Android, Chrome.)

It's happened on a couple of occasions since the new software was introduced, but not for the past few weeks.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

That's interesting - and might have shed some illumination on something I saw last night.

Would you know if you had a change in PPP session (and a thus a change in IP address) overnight?

More often than not, my devices stay logged in with out issue.  I have a static IP and get long PPP sessions.  HOWEVER I did notice that last night my connection into the forum on my iPhone (whilst I was out and about - do not ask!) kept requiring sign-in.  I wonder if the loss of sign-in status is impacted by a change of IP address?

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

Hmm, hard to be 100% sure - rebooted router after loss of synch following a 'noisy' inbound phone call yesterday afternoon Cry, but pretty sure the PC at least was still logged in after that, and no sign of any overnight PPP drop in the TG582n telnet log.

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

OT: There is every chance that you had another PPP drop if the new synch speed was different to that prior to the line drop.  When Plusnet apply a new IP profile, they also (should) bounce the PPP session to pick up the revised profile.

Look at the connection page uptime durations for DSL and Internet - see http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bb/?be=0&l0=2&l1=-1

Re: Keep Me Signed In.... What is the point ? ?

According to the router the DSL connection has been up for about 10 seconds longer than the internet connection. Undecided

The Plusnet profile has yet to update (have just tried a manual PPP disconnect/reconnect and no change...)
