I didn't think to note them down at the time. Will do next time though.

Yeah, if we could establish some sort of pattern that might help to nail this down.

OK. Just had not one, but two incidents.
No. 1: Accessed the "More like SMF....." via Forum -> Topic and got taken to the first post! Last accessed earlier this evening to read @LouisaMartin post and @Townman response. Planned to add a comment.
No. 2: Came to this thread to report No. 1 and.................wait for it! Got to the first post in this thread.
Yes, did wait the usual few seconds for JS to perform its magic in both cases.
Very odd.

Today I've discovered that a number of boards that I've previously read, and in many cases contributed to, have reverted to taking me to the first post rather than the first unread message. No pattern detected, but it's very frustrating.
Is there a planned timescale when we can expect Lithium to make significant improvement in the *Live* operation and allow Users to return to some normality rather than being prepared to record another failure?

Was this all from the same route and there were unread posts in the thread? The homepage modules for topics will not take you to the first unread post in a thread. The board view will though.

And it shouldn't if you have Jump to first unread post in a topic set - As it is as unintuitive and defective as the way the Notification feed is now working where it takes you to the last Unread post.

I see a mischief maker is about, so I've dealt with that In the meantime I'm starting two separate threads on Staging about the two aspects mentioned in my previous post so that we at least do not lose sight of them even if it takes Lithium a month of Sundays to resolve.

I just find the process unintuitive and unreliable? As a User I just want consistency in accessing thread data. If I've set Jump to first unread post in a topic then in a Topic that I've already interacted with, I expect to arrive at either the First Unread message or the last Read message - whichever is appropriate. I cannot recall a case where having read a thread I wish to be taken to the first post. In a long thread of say 5 pages to which I want to add a new post, it is a cumbersome route.

I could have sworn that at the start of all this (maybe before Live) - I can't be precise as a lot of water has gone under the bridge since, but I was sure that clicking a thread where you'd read all posts, it took you to the last post.

The annoying bit is that sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't? There must be a logical reason in something I'm doing, but I cannot spot a pattern (Yet . )

That's my impression too, I think we might have mentioned it on staging when we were finding our way around the options, but I'm not sure where we started on Live.

I see this every now and again and it just happened with that silly testy mc testface post, the blue border was on post #1 which I had definitely cringed at before.
As others above have said there doesn't seem to be any common factor that I have picked up on.

Ah, I wonder did you look at the original posting before it was moved? The Moved post would show up as unread.
@spraxyt I'm glad my mind isn't deteriorating that much then thanks David.
Well I've encountered the problem of an "Unread" Read post a short while ago - it was even one I'd made - just before I saw the issue!! This was in the Latest Posts module. Now I'm sure that I'd gone to the post as I usually do after making one, but to be certain I clicked on it in the Latest Posts module. That made absolutely no difference.
I did note that in my Notification feed I still had the previous post (another poster) in the thread still showing as Unread. However, I then went to the Unread Posts module and clicked on my post there. Still no change. btw I had read the previous post whilst not logged in, I think what I may have done was click reply whilst logged out - was prompted to login - made the reply, returned to the post, and then we have the above. Also my post was at the top of a new page.
The Unread status did not change until I went back to the previous page of the thread!
I shall try and repeat this another time, and try and check if it happens when such a post is not at the top of a new page.

If it had been moved that could explain the last occurrence but it has happened too often for that to be the overall reason for me.

@Anotherone There are so many twists and turns here it's not surprising we get a bit lost. I recall (on staging) we went through notifications still showing unread posts when we thought we'd just read them all. What we'd done was read to the bottom of page 4 (say) then exit without realising there was still unread content on page 5. So notifications was correct in pointing that out.
The additional content might have been added whilst we were reading so unless the page was refreshed we'd have seen 'n of n' at the bottom of the page. This makes our confusion understandable.
