The New button with partially read folders

If I happen to read an Item in a folder then go to the total forum listing, the folder that I have just looked at doesn't show any unread items, but there are some,

If you click the icon, does it show any topics? If it doesn't I suspect clicking the Click here to try all unread topics link will show the topics.
What I think is happening is that the folder icon is showing you if there are unread topics since your last visit (the same as UNREAD POSTS in the title bar) and clicking the folder icon will try to show you those.

If I click the Unread Posts at the top it does show them, its just when I look at the total forum it doesn't

OK - I've just managed to reproduce what you are seeing and it looks very odd.

I dont know what you have just done, but there a a whole pile of items in community site bugs that are marked as new but are not showing up in unread posts, there is also one in community site discusions
Does that mean I now have to go down all folders one by one to see if there are any I havnt read?

No, you don't have to go through all the folders. Click UNREAD POSTS, then on that page click All Unread Topics

that does not always work, just found one by accident that I had not read, with a new icon against it, it did not show up when show all unread topics  was clicked
