DKIM disabled at Microsoft Exchange due to missing CNAME records

Hi

i'm getting emails bounced back from my perosnal domain asplins.co.uk hosted on plusnet from specifically yahoo receipients. This is the error

Remote server returned '550 5.4.300 Message expired -> 451 This mail has been deferred because the sender is sending too much mail for its authentication status. Please set up DKIM aligned to the From: domain. See https://senders.yahooinc.com/smtp-error-codes#authentication-failures for more information.'

On my Microsoft exchange account i can see my perosnal domain asplins.co.uk the DKIM is disabled. If I try to enable it is says i need to add 2 CNAME records to the DNS

Hostname: selector1._domainkey
Points to address or value: selector1-asplins-co-uk._domainkey.asplins.onmicrosoft.com

Hostname: selector2._domainkey
Points to address or value: selector2-asplins-co-uk._domainkey.asplins.onmicrosoft.com

Is this possible on Plusnet as seems not?  If so how do left and field relate to the entries?

Thanks for any advice

Re: DKIM disabled at Microsoft Exchange due to missing CNAME records

You should be able to add CNAMES in the user portal - see manage my account -> manage my domain.  The help page advises...

Canonical name (CNAME) records

'CNAME' records allow a machine to be known by more than one hostname. There must always be an 'A' record for the machine before 'C' names can be added.

C Names

You should make sure:

  • That the canonical name (nominated on the right) is fully qualified (FQDN)
  • If the canonical name doesn't have the full stop at the end, the DNS will add the Top Level Domain on again. This will make the domain name wrong. (E.g. 'house.domainname.co.uk' would become 'house.domain.co.uk.domain.co.uk').

Re: DKIM disabled at Microsoft Exchange due to missing CNAME records

I'm scared of breaking my email so reluctant to just give it a go without being clear which bit goes in left and which bit in right!!!

Appreciate the help.

@masplin Hostname is the left , value is right.

I would expect its pretty failsafe, Exchange won't enable DKIM until the correct records show in your DNS
