Freenetname email not working on Apple mail

Hi

My freenetname email is suddenly not working on Apple mail. It just keeps telling me to reenter my password and then tells me it cannot verify the username or password. I have changed nothing. I can access it on the plusnet webmail however. And can send and receive emails to and from this. But just not on Apple mail.

I can see others are having the same problem and being advised to add their email address as their username. I already have this on other incoming and outgoing servers. The incoming server is a pop server. Pretty sure it's always been like this - since about 1997 - and I've never changed it. Not sure if that is a problem.

My email address is in this format: [myname]@[mydomainname] And that has always worked. Do I need to change this at all? Should I be using one with a freenetname in the email address? Or something different. Pretty sure I've got one with [mydomainname]@freenetname.co.uk - but I think that would include other email addresses for other family members.

Also my incoming server is set to: mail.[mydomainname]

But the outgoing server is set to mail.madasafish.com

Do any of these need to change?

Thanks for anyone's help on this. It's driving me mad right now.

Re: Freenetname email not working on Apple mail

Yep, I have exactly the same problem.  My mailboxes were set up back in the days of globalnet and I have always logged on using user@mydomain and a password.  It all stopped working on 29th April 2025. The incoming server is mail.globalnet.co.uk and always has been. I can get to the root mailbox with accountname@globalnet.co.uk, but not any of the created mailboxes.  Plusnet are not interested because I can access the mailboxes with webmail, but this is no good for a mobile device.  I'm assuming that they have changed some settings on the server, maybe connected with the move to Greenby, but that's just speculation.  It is also driving me mad, it's a show stopper for me.

Re: Freenetname email not working on Apple mail

Yeah, it's really frustrating isn't it?

I didn't know anything about the move to Greenby until I came across it on here. I'm pretty sure I haven't been sent any info about it.

Using the webmail version is not an option really is it? It looks like it was created in the late 90s. I have several email accounts and I want to keep them all in the same place so I can organise stuff. I don't want to be going on to a clunky website to read stuff. I'm using Apple Mail on a Mac - so could theoretically access it but it's not worth it. Irritatingly, although it's no longer my main email address, it is the email address I use for a few things that I've had for a very long time and it will be too complicated to change.

That's interesting that Plusnet aren't interested - I haven't tried contacting them yet. Perhaps I will try. I initially assumed it was me doing something wrong so wanted to explore all options before contacting them.

I was hoping that someone on here might have some bright ideas. Anyone tried anything that's worked?

Re: Freenetname email not working on Apple mail

I have the same issue for outbound email - my mobile clients are accepting inbound, but not outbound.  Using a Globalnet email address - seems to be a common problem at  the moment.
As others have said - can send from the horrible webmail website - but not from mobile clients or from outlook on the laptop
