Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Hi

I am using Thunderbird.

What are the correct settings for outgoing smtp servers for ic24.net when out and about and not connected to plusnet ISP?

Eg

Server name  mail.ic24.net  -> Is this correct?

Port: 587  -> Is this correct?

Connection security ?????    None,  StartTLS,  SSL/TLS

Authentication method ????

Username:  Is it full ic24 email address?    myemail@ic24.net   or just    myemail

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

You only need to ensure you are authenticated for off-network use, your settings remain the same.

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Thanks, but, what are the authentication settings?

With STARTLLS I get an error:

Sending of the message failed.
An error occurred while sending mail: Unable to establish a secure link with Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.ic24.net using STARTTLS since it doesn't advertise that feature. Switch off STARTTLS for that server or contact your service provider.

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Very old installation.

ic24 stopped smtp stopped working.

I used Brevo smtp but were not all being delivered due to soft bounces.

I am trying to find the correct ic24 settings to be able to send emails when out and about.

I cannot find what the authentication settings should be.

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

No, because it does not state the authentication settings.

What are they supposed to be?

Maybe you should try to find the answer yourself rather than being rude

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Exactly how was my response rude?

You asked a question, whether it helped. I assume this was a binary question: yes or no and I stated, "no."

On what basis is this remotely rude? Was I supposed to say, "yes" it helped?

I have tried options, but i cannot seem to get anything to work. The plusnet articles are useless as they do not explcitly state the authentication settings. I had already read it.

Thank you. You need not reply!

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Fix

Solution found by myself:

1. Logged on to: https://secure.madasafish.com/myaccountdx/summary/https://webmail.plus.net/
Account password was correct as logged in.

2. Followed link to webmail:  https://webmail.plus.net/

Logged in and entered the Display name email and email address. Logged out.

3. Then suddenly the orginal smtp settings worked via Thunderbird.

Server Name: mail.ic24.net
Port: 587
User Name: FULL IC24 EMAIL ADDRESS
Authentication method: Password, transmitted insecurely
Connection Security: None

According to the setup page Dan_the_Van referenced, you have the server name, port, and username correct.

For security, StartTLS should work, but None may work too (but be less secure of course)

For Authentication method password  (or autodetect which should detect to use password) should be OK.

If all goes well you will need to enter your password at an appropriate point.

EDIT - I see you got there while I was typing.

@CherryPicker

I spent 10 minutes looking for an answer, so a simple thanks for the link might have been nice.

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

Wow. Really? Take this as a thank you.

Thank you very much for spending 10 minutes to find a link I had already read, which did not provide the connection security and authentication methodor a solution.

I resolved it myself in the manner I posted.

corringham (Champion) is correct that connection security can be none or STARTTLS.

Both work after I logged on to webmail and entered data. My original setting were correct. There was nothing wrong with them.

I have no idea why I was required to log in to webmail first after all these years.

Thank you to all that responded. Wink

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

You really need to review your attitudes to others, how was I supposed to know you had already looked at that link

I actual suggested no security and normal password which is how my thunderbird email is set.

Bye

Re: Outgoing SMTP servers for ic24.net

I think you should review your attitude to others and your ridiculous perception of rudeness.

You asked if the link helped. I said no. How was this rude? There were no insults or rude wordsm yet you make false claims of rudeness.

It was a truely pathetic claim.

It was clear I asked for the security entries.

No other person posted that my responses to their suggestions were rude, just you. Nobody stated they expected a thanks for their response. Hence, review your attitude. There was no reason to make such a pathetic and frankly rude claim. It was immensely childish, especially your suggestion, I find the solution myself, which I did.

I think you should grow up. If you want a thanks after every post, then end your posting with, "Please thank me whether or not my response is useful."
