In fact it's all over this forum now. There is an 'insert SPF - DNS record' work around but i'm not tech savvy enough to undertake it myself. Elsewhere in this forum someone was able to raise a support ticket and get it done by plusnet tech team.
Can i ask for the same help here please ?

@snaz Are you sending from an 'me@myaccount.plus.net' address, or from a 'me@mydomain' one?

@jab1 - my email is a me@mydomain.co.uk email address - an inherited freenetname email i've kept over 18 years which by coincidence passed through various providers and ended up being taken over by plusnet during the time i've been using them for broadband supply...
so aside from not being tech savvy enough to resolve this thread's issue - the active freenetname email domain is sort of buried in the plusnet email controls in a way that makes it hard to tinker with it.
help appreciated...

Ah - you have a problem there. The unsupported work-around for this issue cannot be applied to Freenetname domains. As I understand it, from information I have picked up. the only alternative is to move hosting providers, but I suggest you hold on until @MisterW is available. He has more knowledge than myself.

AFIAK There is no way to add an SPF record for a freenetname hosted domain. The only option is to transfer the domain out.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@MisterW + oh dear -
1. So is the issue of plusnet email rejected as spam just occuring with gmail at the mo and is what gmail has applied to create this situation likely to occur elsewhere do you think ?
2. If i transfer my me@mydomain.co.uk email domain out of plusnet wouldn't the same issue apply at an alt email domain host ? Why is plusnet not able to resolve this where others would ?
any info appraciated

Gmail have decided that all email to their free ( but not paid!) Accounts must have spf or dkim authentication. Note that these are OPTIONAL authentication methods according to the RFC standards but gmail has decided unilaterally that they must be applied for email sent to them!
The freenetname email and dns system is a legacy system and so its just not feasible to extend it to include these options.
Moving the domain to somewhere that can provide either full dns control and/or an email system that can provide dkim is the only option

I have the same issue sending to GMail accounts. As a M365 Family subscriber I can, I think, transfer my email to Microsoft and keep my two main email addresses exactly the same. What's not clear to me is how I make that transfer? My Freenetname email uses POP and the transfer steps I've read refer to IMAP?

Nominet are the domain name facilitators. Basically you have to transfer the domain name into your ownership via Nominet and then transfer it on into the host server. It means a period of shut down when Nominet start the process of transfering it into your ownership unless you can host your own email servers. There is a charge for their service and then expect 3rd part hosts to charge an annual fee for running your domain name for you.
As far as POP etc go - i got a bit lost just understanding the whole take over process but if you are transfering it into a 3rd party host then do some research and ask them questions about their handling capabilities. As far as 3rd party hosts go - there are a wide range with basic cheap price hosting offering little more than hosting and often from eastern european countries where you have to do all the work and customer service is little. More expensive hosting is a bit more friendly re: hand holding through takeover and offering full customer service but can be as much as £100 per year + to host.
If you want to host your own emails then you need to research how to do that as i dont know anything about that.
Prior to the gmail thing i feel tied into plusent because they have my email address and im missing out on social tarrif rate broadband - but if the gmail issue spreads then i will alter my priorities. The cost estimate i worked out was:
COMMENING EMAIL OWNERSHIP MIGRATION TRIGGERS EXTRA COSTS:
£24 NOMINET FEES
£2PM AVERAGE EMAIL MONTHLY FEE ( This is for cheaper range of host provider charges)
£12PA REGISTRATION FEE (Avergae for host providers)
= MIN £36 TO CURRENT ANNUAL COST FIGURE + £1/2PM FOR EVERY MONTH EMAIL IS ACTIVE WITH NEW HOST
There was also an issue of when to migrate email in relation to current plusnet 2 yr contract to mitigate over all extra costs and also get timing right for any further migration of broadband:
MIGRATING ALL SERVICES NOW WILL SAVE ME AN EXTRA 80-65 OVER 2 YEARS
NOT MIGRATING ALL SERVICES NOW WILL COST ME AN EXTRA 80-65 OVER 2 YEARS
MIGRATING THE SERVICES BETWEEN JUNE-NOV 2024 (LAST 6 MONTHS OF 2nd yr of plusnet 2 yr contract) WILL COST ME AN ESTMIATED COMPARABLE EXTRA OF £120 OVER 24 MONTHS (including email migration costs)

Basically you have to transfer the domain name into your ownership via Nominet and then transfer it on into the host server.
There should be no need to transfer the ownership for any domain hosted by Plusnet, the domain is already owned by the customer. All that's needed is to transfer the registration and hosting.

How you access your mail box (POP3 or IMAP client) has absolutely no bearing on how you transfer your domain name away.
If you act quickly, you can transfer your domain name to outlook.com - try doing a Google search.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links
