5 hour timeslots for engineer visits- grrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Having had intermittent cut outs in broadband (now gone altogether) reported by phone to be told up to 5 hour timeslots for engineer (0800 - 1300 or 1300 - 1800).

Anyone else find this super annoying?

Work and family demands mean nigh on impossible for me to commit to a 5 hour potential wait stuck at home.

About time they improve this service? What do you think?

I'm afraid there's very little chance of this happening. Openreach are responsible for maintaining the network and it is they who provide the engineers. Since they are an effective monopoly they can dictate the terms under which engineers are booked.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Your annoyance is understandable, but I fear your expectations are somewhat unrealistic.

DPD deliveries, white goods installations - all manner of domestic visits are relatively predictable. An Openreach engineer, however, never knows what they'll find on any given fault.

A five hour slot appointment is highly likely to be met, but the narrower the window the more likely appointments will fail.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine

Re: 5 hour timeslots for engineer visits- grrrrrrrrrrr!!!

When I last had need for a visit by an engineer to fix a broadband fault (not on the Openreach network), I had an "am" window - however, early that am they sent a text saying they were 90 minutes away which narrowed down the time slot a lot. About 30 minutes later they phoned to say the previous job was quicker than expected an could they come in 15 minutes.

I see no reason Openreach engineers couldn't do the same sort of thing to keep you informed of the likely time they will arrive.
