Change DNS settings to another Host

Hi,

Due to Plusnet closing down their business side im trying to move my plusnet hosted emails and website to EUK host. Ive set everything up in EUKHost and have been advised to change the DNS settings as below:

You may update A and MX record records for the website as below at your domain registrar end:

jamesandson.co.uk >>  A record >>  213.175.196.56

jamesandson.co.uk >> MX record >> mail.jamesandson.co.uk

mail.jamesandson.co.uk  >>A record  >> 213.175.196.56

Ive completed this in my plusnet account on thursday AM but as yet nothing has changed over. Ive screenshoted the changes I have made and attached here. Please can someone point me in the right direction as to what ive done wrong please or what I should do to change over?

Many thanks

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

@jamesandson you need to also check the box 'I wish to specify DNS records for Mail to this Domain'

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

Hi,

I changed the email setting to 'Other' as advised which was over 24hrs ago but emails are still not working through EUKhost.

EUKhost have suggested that I request to change nameservers as below:

Can you please ask the Plusnet domain register to update below nameserver so that your website and mails will both work from the new server

-----------------------------------

ns210.eukdns.com
ns211.eukdns.com

-----------------------------------

I understand from reading through previous posts that Plusnet do not change nameservers?

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks in advance

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

@jamesandson  looks like setting 'other' has worked , in that the automatic MX setting for avasin.plus.net has been removed. However you now don't seem to have any MX record at all!. Try going back into the 'Configure DNS records' again and re-adding the records then saving again. It MAY be that adding the MX record will only take effect IF the 'other' setting is already configured.

I understand from reading through previous posts that Plusnet do not change nameservers?

That's correct, a domain registered via Plusnet will always use the PN nameservers, there's no way to change them.

TBH you may well be better off moving the domain registration to EUKHost if that's where your hosting now is.

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

Still nothing working so far..... How long would it usually take to update?

Ive also phoned Plusnet and couldn't manage to get through to anyone there that knew how to change the DNS settings at all or really even knew what the DNS settings were!

If this doesnt work is there any other quick fixes to get emails working please? Would I be best to just transfer out the domain name to EUKhost so that they can change the nameservers? How long would this process usally take?

Many thanks

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

@jamesandson if I'm being honest just for the support you might be better transferring it out. Domains are not something we (front line support) are fully equipped with.

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

It can take a few flours for any changes to take effect , and then you've got dns propagation time which can be 24 hrs or more.

Transferring the domain will take around 48 hrs once a staff member has requested it.

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

Hi @willcutforth ,

Ive been trying since Tuesday to via phone to get plusnet to changed the IPS tag to EUKHOST so I can transfer my domain, however I've had no joy with anyone I speak to. I believe someone has raised an enquiry with technical but nothing has yet been sorted. Is there any other way to get the IPS tag changed please.

Thank you

Re: Change DNS settings to another Host

Hi @jamesandson

Sorry to hear how much of a saga this has been

Unfortunately, it looks like the agent you spoke with didn't raise this correctly which is why there's been no movement.

I've raised it correctly now and we'll get that done as soon as possible

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Hi @jamesandson

We've raised the request all your new host needs to do is accept it and then ownership should be transferred
