Domain Transfer Question #242142980

Hi,

Raised a ticket to get my domain transferred away from PlusNet on the 10th June and was told it would take a few days to arrange.

Chased it on the 17th - and was told 'a couple more days'...

So now 2 week since requesting and still no sign of anything having been done as yet - should it really be taking this long ?

Can somebody please check the question: -

#242142980

Thanks,

Ian

Re: Domain Transfer Question #242142980

Based on something in another transfer post relied to by 'Penny' I've just tried to do the transfer from the 123Reg end anyway and got the following response:-

To proceed with your transfer request, contact your current registrar and request a tag change to "123-REG". Once the tag change request is submitted, your domain name will become active in your account within 48 hours.

I'm hoping maybe this had already been done and that I'd never been notified ?  Perhaps...

Otherwise - could it please be done for me.

Thanks.

Well - seems to have worked anyway - I can manage everything from 123Reg's console so presumably that's all sorted.

@ianfretwell   If you can now manage the domain from 123-Reg's console, does seem odd if your ticket was not updated by PN when the transfer was actioned (?)

Re: Domain Transfer Question #242142980

Hi Penny,

It doesn't seem to have replicated to internet DNS servers just yet as I'm still resolving to Plusnet addresses - but the domain I didn't want to transfer still shows entirely as Plusnet whereas the other one definitely shows 123Reg as the Registrar.

Re: Domain Transfer Question #242142980

@ianfretwell moving the registration won't automatically change the nameservers. Once you've changed them manually it can take up to 48hrs for that to propagate.

Hi - yes, I've already changed them and got that notification. So just playing the waiting game now I guess.

Thanks

Re: Domain Transfer Question #242142980

Yes, its a bit of a pain during the propgation, some DNS lookups will get the old nameservers and some the new. The normal trick to avoid any problems, is to reduce the TTL on all the DNS records on the old servers then change all the records as required to match those on the new servers. Then you switch nameservers and now it doesnt matter about propagation since the DNS records on both nameservers are the same.

Problem is you can't do that with the PN namservers there's no facilities to change much in terms of DNS records.

I'm now rewinding my memory a couple of decades.

Reducing the TTL on DNS was an old spammer trick, to ensure their spammed website remained as available as possible (IIRC).
