Optical Network Terminal what version

Hi,
My brother will soon be moving in a place that has fibre.
Told him to get Plus Net, mainly cheaper than the rest, but I will get my referral fee.

But what is this ONT
Was a member for years, but moved from PN fttc to fttp from an AltNet. Getting 940Mb up and down. Happy to stay on here and try to help others. 

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

@mystreet1 ONT = Optical Network Terminal. This is the way Full Fibre is delivered, rather than over the phone line. It is installed when the Fibre connection is made, and an Ethernet cable is then connected between it and the Hub/router. Looks like this, or very similar, depending which version is installed:

@mystreet1

As the router is connected via ethernet cable it can go anywhere in the property your brother is willing to run said cable.

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

@bmc The Hub/router can, but the ONT usually has to be on an outside wall, and within 1m of a power source.

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

ICBW but I suspect @mystreet1 is asking about the ONT which is already installed at the premises his brother is moving to, rather than what an ONT is.

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

Maybe, @RobPN , but that looks like the standard 1-port version that is usually installed in domestic premises?

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

Fix

It's an old style single port version, since it has a tel port.

Re: Optical Network Terminal what version

My initial answer was being typed as the OP added their image - I didn't take much notice, so didn't realise it was an oldie. 😀
