Re: SOTAP Launched

BT are launching a new "Analogue" phone to assist in the migration from PSTN. See

Re: SOTAP Launched

Re: "SOTAP Launched":

I'm reasonably well versed on much of this PSTN switching to all-IP - but even I find some of these 'products/services' fairly confusing...

Considering that SOADSL is 'sort of available' already - and anyone in the know, with ADSL(2+), could potentially organise their own VOIP service - then SOTAP seems almost redundant.

I guess, SOTAP is really just a wholesale option for service providers to take up/offer (or ignore). (?)

I suppose it potentially enables providers to offer an ADSL and phone service bundled together - without the customer needing to know how to arrange their own VOIP. (?)

I assume Openreach will either be; providing the underlying VOIP phone service (and ADSL connection) - or the exchange equipment gets configured to be compatible with the ISP's particular VOIP routing. (?)

And I guess the phone service will either require either BT/Openreach's router/phone hardware - or the re-seller/third party ISP's equipment, to be 'compatible'.  (?)

Lots of question marks.

At first glance the article does look like they are launching a new 'pink' phone - but hang on a moment, it's not April Fools' day for a while yet!.

It's actually just a sort of 'last resort' legacy analogue service - not a new phone at all (but of course).
