Weird external ip address.

Evening all,

I have a Synology NAS in my father's house which I use purely for backup. This NAS is configured for remote access through Synology's DDNS service.

Tonight I noticed a lot of notifications about the NAS successfully registering the Plusnet IP address to Synology's DDNS service, approx every few seconds for around 15 minutes. This IP address seems a little weird as it is 51.6.xx.xx but I have never seen an external IP address starting with just two digits, both my father and I are with Plusnet and we have always been given external IP's starting with three digits. eg 173.13.197.148

I VPN'd into the Nas and then checked the router in my father's house just to check the IP Plusnet had given it and it is the same as was shown on the NAS. 51.6.xx.xx

I also did an IP trace on that address and it is indeed registered to Plusnet. So nothing to worry about but I was wondering if anyone else has this same strange external IP address or if anyone knows if Plusnet has now bought a block of IPV4 address's starting with two digits instead of the more usual three?

Re: Weird external ip address.

@JRIrish Plusnet have various ranges of IPs. It appears that for some reason your external IP has been renewed, and you have received one in the 51.6.xx.xx range - absolutely nothing to worry about.
