I am about to upgrade from FTTC to FTTP.
Plusnet have said my own router won't work and I will need to buy a Hub Two from them.
I think they may be lying.
I presently have a TP-LINK N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router. Model Number TL-WDR3600.
It supports PPoE authentication and I have a feeling that is enough.
I would welcome some advice.

It will work, however it may not be up to the higher fttp speed products ( > 300Mb )
It's still worth the £6.99 p & p charge for the Hub 2 as, in the event of any problems, support will be better able to assist with diagnostics if the hub 2 is available

That model only has a WAN port , its a router , no dsl port. Which sort of begs the question , how is it working on fttc ?

A wire leads from the BT master socket to the Openreach Modem. A lead then goes (via my internal network) to my router.

Thanks for confirming that. You should just be able to connect the router to the ONT instead of the Bt modem without any reconfiguration.
My only concern is performance . What speed fttp product are you going for?

I am looking at the Fibre 145 deal.
Why would Plusnet say it wouldn't work? To secure the deal for the Hub Two?

TBH it should be fine on the 145Mb product. Just make sure the ethernet cable is cat5e or better.
PN don't make any profit supplying routers for the £6.99 p & p charge. You cantmexpect them to understand the capability of non plusnet routers so its easier for them if a pn one is used

No . Probably because the sales agents are not fully trained on FTTP, and it is safer for them to be told to advise potential customers that the Hub2 is the best option.
EDIT @MisterW beat me to it.

My internal network is Cat6.
Thankyou for your advice.
I will use my existing router .
I can always upgrade if I am not happy with it. I has been a good piece of kit.
Never had a peep out it for years and years.

My installation date is 21st of this month.
What will happen to the Openreach modem?

It's no longer required. The engineer will likely remove the copper circuit and the master socket. The modem is yours so you can do what you like with it.

The Openreach chap has just left.
I restarted my existing router without changing any settings and my download speed has risen from 12 mbs to 150 mps.
Job done.
