Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

The engineer has left the copper land line and I can still use my landline telephone.

The engineer said it was a good idea to keep in in case of issues over Christmas.

Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

I know it is still early days but I really am over the moon with the service and speed.

I should have done it months ago but I have always had a tendency towards the "if it ain't broke" attitude.

I have this tedency to just put things off for the same reason haha. I'm so glad you're happy with the speed. I can't get Full Fibre at the minute so I'm not jealous.. Much haha

Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

For completeness, TP-Link say the TL-WDR3600

"Achieves blazing WAN to LAN throughput of over 800Mbps with hardware NAT"

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wdr3600/

so actually well up to most FTTP services.

It seems to be excellent value second hand as well.

I've generally been pleased with TP-Link stuff.

I am the satisfied customer....

Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

I would certainly have taken advice before buying this router, and it was advice well given. I haven't had a peep out of it since I bought it. It was to replace a router I had been given as part of a package, but I am not sure if it was when I switched to Plusnet  or my previous supplier - Be. Be was bought by Sky and the customers were migrated to the Sky network with the predictably terrible results. It was really bad. It is the only time I have ever had the misfortune to be a customer of that company.

Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

I am in the process of having a PC spring clean by renewing passwords, deleting unused stuff and organising the rest.

I have been sniffing about in the router and can see my connection details as my plusnet email address (which I have never used) and a password. I cannot see this password and I don't think I can remember what it is.

Anyone have any ideas?

@Eggs Your Plusnet username is in the format username@pludsl.net it is not your email address, the username and password are the same as that used to login into your member centre Plusnet account.

Re: FTTC to FTTP router upgrade

I see. And since I have just changed that password I assume I will need to chnage it in the router when it reboots?

We now have access to openreach fibre, and like you, I have this if it works then why change and to be honest 36Mb/s is fine for me. I realise at some point I will have no choice but to change, but at this moment in time I don't see any advantage for me.  I have a old TP link Wr1043Nd router, which I am thinking of putting back in line as my old Hub 2 is playing up. I know the TP link is very old, but even on the lower end FTTP services, it should work fine.
