FTTP Down - PON light red on ONT

My FTTP connection suddenly went down this evening. Checking the ONT, the PON light is illuminated red, rather than green.

LEDs from left to right:

  • Alarm - off
  • LAN - solid green
  • PON - solid red
  • Power - solid green

I have power cycled the ONT, no difference, and it's located out of the way, so hasn't been knocked or anything. I can only assume that the fault is somewhere on Openreach's side of things.

I have tried using the automated SMS troubleshooting bot, but it tries to diagnose faults with another account that I manage, rather than the account at this address.

What are the next steps?

Re: FTTP Down - PON light red on ONT

Hi @CX
The ONT is reporting loss of optical signal.
The ONT and fibre are Openreach's domain, nothing you can fix.
You need to contact Plusnet and report the fault.
If the SMS vault report is not working, then I would suggest calling Plusnet.

Thanks just got off the phone with Plusnet support and they have confirmed loss of service and booked an appointment with OR to resolve.

All sorted - it was a bad splice in the CSP.
