FTTP and using my own kit.

Getting FTTP installed net week, and whilst I ticked the option for the £7 router, i'm hoping I don't need it, and it can be stashed away as a spare.

I'm more than happy with the features and performance of my Draytek box, so my question is going to be:

a)  what box will the engineer fit onto the wall?  some kind of fibre terminator, what is the box's "output"  Is it a PPOE RJ45?

b) can i use my trusty Draytek 2862?

c) if not, is there some suitable Draytek kit I can buy?

Thanks,

Re: FTTP and using my own kit.

@Mark_g1

OpenReach install an Optical Network Terminator (ONT) on your wall. Your equipment conencts vial an Ethernet cable.

https://support.aa.net.uk/Openreach_FTTP_ONT

If your Daytrek supports PPPoE then you can connect it directly.

Re: FTTP and using my own kit.

Fix

a)  what box will the engineer fit onto the wall?  some kind of fibre terminator, what is the box's "output"  Is it a PPOE RJ45?

Its an ONT (Optical network termination) , it provides an RJ45 Ethernet connection. It needs mains power and to be within 1m of a socket.

b) can i use my trusty Draytek 2862?

Yes, connect a cat5e ( or better ) cable from the ONT to the WAN2 port on the 2862. Configure WAN2 for PPPoE with your Plusnet credentials and youre good to go.

edit : make sure youve got the Hardware acceleration enabled https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-hardware-acceleration-tips  especially if youre going for > 300Mb FTTP
