Full Fiber 500 Really slow

Hi there, new here.

It's been few months now that I'm paying for the full Fiber 500 and the thing is I only have 15Mb MAXIMUM for download and around 45Mb upload.
I'm using some TP-Link Powerline allowing 1000Mb because my router is in the opposite room in my flat so the wifi is not working properly for this.

I don't know what to do as I'm supposed to have way more connection for what I am paying. The technician who installed me the router told me that Plusnet is supposed to honor his contract and provide solutions for this.

Thank you in advance for your help.

@gautierviller

Are you in a position to do a speed test with a PC or laptop connected directly to the router. If not can you try an ethernet connection to the powerline adapter.

WiFi speed tests can be inaccurate due to a number of reasons. The speed being received is measured at the router. PlusNet are not responsible for any equipment after this and can offer no guarentees.

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

@bmc powerline adapters are notorious for speed drops like this, i would never expect anywhere near 500mbps with a powerline adapter, if theres coax he could try moca?

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

I didn't even do a wifi speed test as I'm not using it appart from my phone or Chromecast.
Appart from this, I did the ethernet speed test from the powerline adapter yeah (because as mentionned, my computer is in the opposite room in my flat).

I'm gonna try straight from the router on a laptop if I can tonight.

But let's say it's working properly straight from the router, there's still an issue anyway right ?

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

I don't expect to have the 500Mb.
But these are made especially for max 1000Mb. So it should work fine.
Also, even if I have a little drop, I'm okay with this. But not from 500Mb to 15Mb.

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

If you get close to 500Mb/s when connected direct to the Hub, the issue is with your internal setup - nothing anyone other than you can do about that, I'm afraid.

Which specific Powerline kit are you using - make and model?

I would never really expect much from powerlines @gautierviller, it all depends on the wiring on the property etc

Take speed claims for powerline adaptors with a large pinch of salt @gautierviller

I have some tp-link 1000mbps powerline adapters and have never got more than 120mbps from them, wouldn't recommend them for use on anything about the 80 product.

You need to try a cable to the router as others have suggested. I have the Full Fibre 900 and get full speed to directly cabled devices.

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

@dvorak Yeah but even if I had 120Mb I'd be happier ... Here I'm around 15 Cry
I'm gonna try straight from the router yeah and see how it goes.

@jab1 I have these ones : TP-Link TL-PA7027P KIT AV1000

But even if I have issues with these, it's still not normal and Plusnet is apparently supposed to provide solutions for this anyway as I can't be just stuck in one room with full internet.

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

@gautierviller If you try as @dvorak suggests and the speed improves, then Plusnet are absolved - they have no responsibility beyond the ONT.

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

To add my voice to the masses, the model of Powerline adapter would be useful.

I've seen many units erroneously advertise speeds that are simply not achievable due to having a 10/100mbps ethernet port. From a quick Google search, here's a prime example. Advertised at 600mbps, when they only have a 100mbps ethernet port.

Even ignoring the port, your electical wiring is going to have an adverse effect on speed and latency. When I was reliant on Powerline adapters in a new build, newly wired house, I never saw north of 200mbps, and that was using 1000mbps plugs with gigabit ports.

Not one that Plusnet would need to address.

Edit: I see you've actually provided the make/model. They do have gigabit ports, however my comments around wiring still stand. Couple of other questions: have you tried simply switching each plug off/back on? How are you measuring speed? You're not confusing mbps with MBps are you? (15MBps = 120mbps)

I'll concur with that, I have a pair of TP link 1000AV plugs. With the plugs in 2 sockets on the same radial circuit they max out at 200Mb. Connected to sockets on different circuits on a split load consumer unit i.e via different RCD's, they max out at around 20Mb!!

Re: Full Fiber 500 Really slow

TP-Link have a windows and Android/IOS app "tpPLC" which detail the performance of the powerline adapters

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/tl-wpa7517-kit/#Apps

The windows version allows for QOS adjustment.
