Keeping landline number

Hello I am wondering if anyone can shine some light on the subject for me.

I want to stay with plusnet and upgrade to FTTP but I can't keep my landline number without porting it to another supplier.
The most painless way to retain the old number and get a fibre install is to moved to BT (who charge almost double).

Can I upgrade to fibre with plusnet and retain the number for future use when Plusnet provide a phoneline with fibre. Or do I need to let BT have the monopoly on the telecoms industry and transfer to them.

Thanks

@weeally46

If you upgrade to PN Fibre then you'll lose your phone line - they do not provide a VOIP service.

You should be able to port your number out to a VOIP provider as OFCOM have mandated this. Don't know the exact procedure of if it actually works. PN did not allow it when they introduced their FF product.

There are any number of VOIP providers out there - one is https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/

There are also other companies out there who'll do both FTTP and VOIP - only problem is how long your PB contract has to run.

Re: Keeping landline number

I've still got 12 months left on my contract.

The whole process seems a bit convoluted and off putting.
