Slow connection - anyone else?

Today my connection is like 56K. But when I do a speed test it is coming out over 300MB/sec. I can only conclude that the traffic for the speed test is prioritised in some way.

Is anyone else experiencing problems? The internet still works, but pictures on the page load slowly, and are blurred, then load top to bottom. It's like internet in the 90s. Videos cannot play, they buffer every second at 240p. Navigating around the web or even trying to open an email is really slow.

It could also be a problem with traffic to particular servers (e.g. those outside the UK?). Some sites load OK, others do not.

This is happening in the same month when Plusnet put up my prices...

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

@Debaser Is it the majority of traffic which is slow? When did the problem start?

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

The problem started today. It's taking me 5 minutes to load 1 webpage. CAPTCHAs take 10-15 seconds to appear. Weirdly this website is fine.

The Plusnet number you text HELP to is a bit useless for this problem, because my internet does work, it's just so slow as to be unusable. Them "refreshing" it, or telling me to turn it off or on, isn't any help when the problem is probably somewhere further up the routing.

I don't know how to get further help with this. If it's only affecting me then... I have no idea what the problem could be. The fact that some websites such as Plusnet or BBC load quickly, suggests a routing problem with traffic outside the UK.

Which sites are you having issues with, specifically?

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

I've noticed slow speed/packet loss to cloudflare. Any, and I mean any website that hosts with cloudflare is experiencing issues for me.

This is the second time this has happened for me in the last 2 weeks.

https://downdetector.co.uk/status/plusnet/ that nice big spike of issues reported on down detector is about when I started having issues.

Meanwhile my father has BT so I've done a test there and it's all working fine and taking a different route.

Me:

 3    10 ms    11 ms    11 ms  213.120.163.20
  4    11 ms    10 ms    10 ms  217.32.240.95
  5    13 ms    11 ms    10 ms  host213-121-192-114.ukcore.bt.net [213.121.192.114]
  6    11 ms    11 ms    11 ms  peer8-et-0-0-5.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [109.159.252.186]
  7    32 ms     *        *     195.99.126.233
  8    31 ms    30 ms    32 ms  141.101.71.63
  9     *       32 ms    30 ms  162.159.137.232

Father:

4     7 ms     7 ms     7 ms  62.6.204.188
  5     8 ms     9 ms     8 ms  62.6.204.175
  6     8 ms     9 ms     8 ms  195.99.126.97
  7    11 ms     9 ms     9 ms  141.101.71.93
  8    29 ms    19 ms     8 ms  162.159.137.232

The 195.99.126.233 IP where issues start appearing for me is a BT IP address so it's clearly an issue with BT's routing. Or Plusnets.

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

BT's - as that is outside the Plusnet 'core'.

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

Some of the sites were using Cloudflare, but some weren't - e.g. x.com.

But the problem appears to have solved itself as of about 1 minute ago. All pages and images are loading instantly now.

Edit - Actually I am still having issues occasionally. It does seem to be websites using Cloudflare that sometimes have problems.

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

I am also experiancing issues with Cloudflare. It only appears to be people on Plusnet as all of my firends/colleagues on other providers are not having these problems. If i connect to a VPN then the issue goes away. I had the same issue a few days a go, must be a routing issue somewhere on the BT network but would be nice if Plusnet can escalate it as there are so many services on the internet that use Cloudflare. I did use their DNS but have had to change for now.

Lots of packet loss to Cloudflare DNS:

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

I'm also getting slow loading/packet loss issues on a bunch of sites, theregister.co.uk and artstation.com  are two examples (it seems to be their media CDN's most impacted).

A bunch of games are also having issues, notably EVE online, which is basically unplayable atm.

Everything works fine over VPN and mobile (a different provider), some sites have zero issues (cnn, youtube, a few others).

I've attached some ping plots of the sites mentioned as well as the EVE server, if it's any use.

195.99.126.233 seems to be a common link in my case.

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

I also seem to be getting issues to Plusnet.

Speeds of <1Mbps from their speed test which runs full speed on my mobile data.

Anyone else able to test at https://speed.cloudflare.com/

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

Yes my connection has been bad most of the day (and there must be a reason why your post as so many views already).

Some sites open slow, some won't open at all, I was blaming Brave for this, but it now looks like Plusnet is the prob (and what's with all the security to just sign up here, took me ages). Also this is not the first time this as happened on a Saturday, but today as to be the worst.

I had to try 3 speed test sites before one would give a result before the day is over.

I don't know if this is good or bad.

Upload 11.63 Mb

Ping 19 ms

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

Also Discord having issues at the same time (about twice in the last few weeks).

https://downdetector.co.uk/status/discord/

I don't understand much about DNS but could that be why some sites will  (diff DNS) and will not open, today anyhow.

Re: Slow connection - anyone else?

Discord is hosted by cloudflare and it's plusnets routing to cloudflare that is the problem at the moment therefore there's issues connecting to discord.
