I have to say that in all the years of asking for help within the Plusnet Community Forums, I have never been let down. I think what the community provides here is exceptional, and it must be considered as a big asset for the company; I wonder whether they appreciate that fact.

I read unsubstantiated claims about the demise of services which have NOT been announced.
As for ETCs the exit process is fairly well known:
Services are paid for in advance.
At potential termination notice users are advised of likely ETCs due.
After termination, advance payments beyond the termination are netted off against actual ETCs. In the scenario described it is somewhat likely that a refund would be due. However that did not stop an opportunity for a rant.
Frankly they have made themselves appear more than a little silly.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

With all the information provided here, I’m beginning to understand just what needs to be done to provide a digital phone solution at home for the household. As far as I can see, my primary option is to purchase a VOIP adapter, which I can plug into my Plusnet router (I’m assuming that the router has this capability). I would then plug my traditional phone into the adapter. What follows then is for me to find a VOIP provider service, which will allow me to make and receive calls. Or have I simplified it too much?

Similar to many thing’s technological there are several approaches. What you describe should allow you to use your existing telephone hand sets.

If you decide to stay with PN for FTTP do not attempt to port your number out until FTTP is up and running. At this point the number becomes "ceased" and you have 30 days to port.
Some VOIP providers cannot handle (or have been unable to in the past) ceased numbers. You need to make sure your chosen provider can.
Look at your phone usage before looking at providers. This can "infulence" who you go for. If you can use your mobile for outgoing calls then A&A is worth a look. They can handle ceased calls (I believe their order page gives the the option of ticking a box for "Inport ceased number"

If you use house extensions then these can't be used without a bit of work on your part.
Apart from buying an ATA to use (plugs into the router via ethernet cable) you can also use Smart Apps on your phone to save spending money on equipment. I have no experience but others can advise.
I mentioned before the possiblilty of buying a router that has a working phone socket for VOIP and mentioned FritzBox.
The 7530 is used by Zen Internet and can be had off eBay for less than £50 - you might pay more for an ATA. I've included links so you can have alook at it and decide if it's worht considering. It's a well regarded router and has WiFi 6

... and you have the confirmation email from Plusnet.
Seeing it working, but not having received the confirmation email has proved to be an unwise time to initiate the transfer.
