Unlimited Fibre while using BT Homehub 2 and moving to Full Fibre - Do I need Plusnets Hub 2

Self explanatory to be honest,

Interested in finally moving the full fibre but doubt I need the hub 2 because as far as I know its the exact same as the BT Homehub (which I upgraded myself because they've always been the best) so when I upgrade surely I wont even need to reconnect or connect anything? it should all just work seamlessly shouldn't it? The plusnet advisory couldn't really advise

Are you referring to the BT Smarthub 2?

If so, you will deifnitely need to reconfigure things.

For a start, connection from the router will be via ethernet to the Openreach Fibre ONT that will be installed as part of the upgrade. This means retiring the cable that is currently conected to your phone line in favour of an ethernet cable that runs between the fourth ethernet port on the router and a LAN port on the ONT.

Secondly, some BT Smarthub 2's that were provided for use with xDSL services are not configured for Full Fibre. However if your BT hub is running a recent firmware build, then you should find an option in the settings somewhere to switch it across to Full Fibre mode. This results in the fourth LAN port being repurposed as a WAN port, and it's this port you'd use to connect to the Fibre ONT.
