Re: Upload speed

I still believe your observations are only explained by an upload speed cap being applied somewhere upstream of OR's speedtest - so probably within Plusnet's network.

I recall we ruled out a static address limit (which has been seen before). I wonder whether if it is worth trying enabling a static IP address - that changes the way traffic is routed through Plusnet's network. There is normally a one-off £5 charge, but I suspect if you ask someone at Plusnet may enable one as an experiment.

Re: Upload speed

Willing to try this. If someone can arrange this.

Getting really frustrated I'm paying for something and not receiving the minimum upload which states 27 at least!!!

Re: Upload speed

@corringham - I double checked everything and nothing obvious from my end, I see you have had the same IP for a number of sessions so turning the router off for an hour might help get a new one leaving into what @corringham says about the static IP, I'd like to see if a new dynamically assigned IP resolves it before a static IP to please the static IP police (there is a limited number)  Another thing I've noticed is that for the last 5 hours give or take there has been more upload than download at about 90Mb per hour, not a lot, however, could indicate a load of little requests clogging up the router ability to upload. Have you turned off WIFI and connected just 1 PC over ethernet to the router and ran a speed test?

You can see your IP here so you know it's changed following the reboot  https://www.whatismyip.com/

Re: Upload speed

I will turn it off as soon as I get home.

I don't understand what has been uploading? I haven't even been home since half 7 this morning and I only have cameras and Alexa devices plugged in... ?! The cameras are saving to internal memory so not even cloud based which I would understand upload usage!

Re: Upload speed

@MatthewWheeler

What was the result of the ONT speed test? Does it confirm that the upload sync speed is 30mbps.

Re: Upload speed

@Townman - We're unable to see the speed results of FTTP it's assumed it has to go at full speed being light unlike FTTC where we can see sync rates. The speed are managed by the BTW profile which is 30Mbps.

Re: Upload speed

@James30  I believe you can run a throughput test directly to the ONT as @Townman says. It was introduced as a trial in 2022 but is has been available to all ISPs for a while now

Re: Upload speed

Well, I had turned the router off for an entire hour and my speed is now 7Mbps download and 14mbps upload..........

Also, in earlier posts, the test from the BT suggests it's supposedly set at 30 upload... But I beg to differ on this.

Re: Upload speed

So it eventually went back to "normal", but it's still 20mbps upload. Please resolve this or I will cancel the contact as you have failed to provide the minimum 27mbps upload that it states in my letter. Extremely unhappy that I would need to do that.

Re: Upload speed

@Notoriousxx

I understand how frustrating it is for you, I manage with 16mbps upload speeds.

There is no guarantee a change of ISP will resolve this issue.

On the Hub Two if you view >Home >My devices you can view the data usage for each device connected to your LAN

Screenshot 2024-03-14 195044.png

I make Alexa calls on this device, note the higher upload usage.

It could be a bandwidth hungry device on your network causing the issue, I'd look for a OneDrive or another cloud saving device.

Re: Upload speed

Thank you. Sorry to hear you have 16mbps!
Unfortunately, with just 1 device connected it's still 20mbps upload. It was always this ever since day dot.
Edit to add:

I can't see any device that would be on during the day having used any data. They are all 0MB. The only device that is taking data is my PC and my mobile. Both these things aren't used during the day (mobile is with me at work obviously, and my PC is always off)

Re: Upload speed

Still 20mbps upload........

Please someone from Plusnet support contact me. I have been though your phone support as I mentioned in my previous posts and it was extremely unhelpful and the agent didn't "monitor for 24 hours and advise the next steps". I never heard from him again!!

Re: Upload speed

Sorry to hear this is still ongoing @Notoriousxx

We've pretty much ruled out everything we can do remotely bar doing a change on our supplier's backend systems to try and change the speeds.

I'm going to place a order to increase your speeds which will complete on Monday and then we'll move it back on Tuesday to see if this clears it

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role
