Value for money...reducing!

Been with plusnet for a long while now, landline phone and broadband. Signed up for unlimited fibre when FTTC was available in my area (Cheshire East). Initially got good d/l speeds and reasonable u/l. Then ... don't know if it's a result of more users, but things gradually fell apart. Got so frustrated that I spent good money on a new router (TP-Link) which magically seemed to do the trick!
Er ... for a while.
Now finding all the old problems resurfacing: lost internet connection / web addresses timing out / slower and slower up&down speeds / etc.
Yesterday evening, for instance my wife needed to complete an online questionnaire fairly urgently. She began the process but was met with recerrent time-outs, eventually followed by 'no internet connection'.
I tried all the usual checks and investigations until suddenly at 22:10 I managed to raise a connection, but speeds were abysmal (d/l ~15, u/l ~8). Normally such slow speeds, although becoming more commonplace, are only a nuisance -- we're retired so have loads of time on our hands (hmmmmm)!!!
But this is getting ridiculous - why pay a premium for high speeds and only get snail's pace?
I was going to try raising a fault report today, but it seems the plusnet system is having a rough time of it currently, and I do not relish hanging on a phone for hours!

Re: Value for money...reducing!

Hiya @hughrober, I am really sorry for the issues with your service.

I have tested your line and it does look like your current sync speed is 15.8mb which is lower than we would expect for your line. The test didn't detect any faults that could be causing this.

As you're having issues with the troubleshooter, I have created a manual fault ticket here for you: https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=view_question&id=217742272 if you can please complete the troubleshooting and get back to us with the requested information if the issue persists.

Re: Value for money...reducing!

Someone, somewhere has had a go at my problem - because today I have d/l speeds of better than 25Mbps.

Ping is a bit erratic, but u/l speeds are pretty much as before at 8 to 9.

I have tried to contact the various people who have been involved (according to some messages I have received) but this system seems to be fearfully faulty. Let's see if this note reaches someone 'in the know'!

Hiya @hughrober, I'm pleased to hear that your speeds have increased. I have tested the line today and we are seeing a download sync of 28.7mb.

Having checked over this, I'm unable to see that us or our suppliers have done anything so I'm actually unsure of why this may have occurred unless anything has changed your side?

Re: Value for money...reducing!

I haven't changed a thing!

Done a lot of speed checking etc., but no changes to my configuration at all!!

I'm seeing around 25Mbps d/l fairly consistently now - ping 26 / d/l 26.31 / u/l 8.69 as of 12:57.

If it keeps it at that - or better - I'm not going to grumble (too much!) even though it's still below MGS.

Re: Value for money...reducing!

Thanks for getting back to me and confirming, certainly strange!

The speeds you are seeing are above your MGS (just) but at the lower end of your estimates. I'd advise to monitor and see if the speed remains, if you have any further issues then just get back to us and we can get it progressed with our suppliers for you.
