Virgin full fibre now available to me but not Plusnet FTTP?

Fibre has been installed in our street and Virgin are now saying they can provide FTTP to my address.  I currently have Plusnet FTTC (3 months left on contract) and would look to move to Plusnet FTTP but the Plusnet checker says FTTP not available at my address.  Are Plusnet able to use the fibre that has just been installed in our street or is it exclusively Virgin?

Fix

@cjags

In a word: No.. Plusnet cannot use the Virgin network, only infrastructure provided by Openreach

That's a shame. I was hoping that since Virgin can use Openreach infrastructure to provide services, it worked the other way.  I guess I will have to wait for Openreach to dig up my street as well.

@cjags  you must be thinking of someone else, VM do not use Openreach, they have always had their own network, inherited from the likes of Nynex and other s, then Cable and Wireless and so on.

As a point of interest, the Virgin and OR networks worked differently too, although I suspect the NextFibre - Virgins joint-venture 'true fibre' one - is more closely aligned, but still not compatible.

It’s a shame a national infrastructure wasn’t agreed and implemented similar to the national grid.

This would have made choosing and moving suppliers a whole lot easier.

True, in a way, I suppose, @Champnet , but then we would have the same anti-user attitude that we are increasingly seeing from BT/OR, who are still the dominant communications supplier.  Unfortunately, Zen's other 'wires' provider (City Fibre) are not available to me - yet - and when I had a problem which I KNEW was due to a fault in the 'last mile' copper bit of my then FTTC connection, OR still insisted to Zen that it could be 'my equipment', I ended up with an unusable landline for a week - not a big issue, as I never used it for outgoing calls - but annoying all the same.

Re: Virgin full fibre now available to me but not Plusnet FTTP?

@Mustrum  The OP is referring to Virgin FTTP which is supplied by Nexfibre and is a new XGS-PON fibre network totally separate from the old Virgin coax cable network. Nexfibre are sharing Openreach underground ducts and poles via the PIA  scheme (Physical Infrastructure Access). They pay Openreach to be allowed to share the infrastructure, it's still a separate fibre network so obviously of no use to Plusnet customers.
