when does full fibre speed show?

Is the BT train in time still a thing for a new connection? I just upgraded to full fibre 500 and getting 215-225mbs so half of expected, so wondering if the BT 10 days wait time for true speed to show is still a thing or not.

Re: when does full fibre speed show?

@Gus there is no training time for FTTP ( there never really was for FTTC! )

Is that speed test wired or wireless ?

Do you have any homeplugs(powerlines) in the circuit ?

Which router are you using ?

Re: when does full fibre speed show?

You need to do a wired test to check

Re: when does full fibre speed show?

@Gus  The only valid speed test for any broadband is via an ethernet connection to the router. Forget wi-fi it's meaningless, you are testing the wi-fi speed not your broadband connection.

Re: when does full fibre speed show?

@Gus

The "real" speed of WiFi is much less than the theoretical maximum.

Buy a long Ethernet cable for your B650 AORUS ELITE AX and try the speed test using that.

Also the Plusnet supplied router isn't the greatest in terms of WiFi performance.

Once you have proved to your satisfaction that the connection is capable of the package speed you need to think where to go next.

For many people a mesh WiFi system helps. Look for WiFi 6E.

The ideal is using an Ethernet cable.

Assuming that's not practical, you have a capable computer and your next investment probably needs to be in a better WiFi system.

You might be able to optimise WiFi Performance by some adjustments of the position of the connected antenna on your motherboard but if you are more than 2m or a wall away from the router performance starts to drop.

Fix

Just to expand a bit on what others have said, your motherboard has Wifi 6E, which could be capable of 1GB wifi, but the Hub2 only has Wifi 5 would in the real world will top out around the 200Mb - 300Mb range.
