Deactivate voicemail

I prefer an answer phone with a flashing light so I am trying to deactivate the voicemail service on my home phone.

I have tried several times to de-select voicemail on the call features page but it will not 'stick'. Every time I return to it it is selected and currently active.

Please could someone help?
