Re: Landline problem

@Gandalf

The last response suggests that neither of the automated test services could detect this fault.  Is there a route for feeding that back for improvement please?

Re: Landline problem

It's true that the automated tests via text seemed to be far inferior to the tests done on-screen. Whereas the first ones happened almost immediately the on-screen ones at least took a few seconds and the telephone call I had following the "Oops" screen was very useful.

Whether or not there's a route for feeding back this kind of observation I don't know.

Anyway, my problem is now fixed. I recently had a call which I took expecting the phone to just carry on ringing but it turned out to be from an Outreach engineer saying the fault had been fixed. The problem was at the exchange apparently.

Many thanks for everyone's help here.

@198kHz  what in your experience (other than faulty handsets) might give rise to this issue ... whilst not giving rise to a fault condition when the line is tested?

Sorry, a bit late to the party.  Embarrassed

I would have said 99 percent certain that it's in the exchange - most likely the line card.

Noted that it's now been cleared anyway.

Re: Landline problem

Wow a fix on a Saturday afternoon within hours of having been raised!!

Maximum kudos / respect points to the exchange engineer responsible!

The e-mail from Plusnet said:

Main Fault Location: FU (Fault located at exchange (Openreach side of MDF)) Fault Code: NDT (No Dial Tone) Clear Code: 4.2 Clear Message: Jumpers & Terminations

Re: Landline problem

A fix on Saturday afternoon indeed, I can only imagine it was pretty straightforward.

Kudos also due I think to Plusnet who were able to tell me within a few minutes that Openreach had identified the problem. Can't help thinking that without Plusnet it would still be unresolved.

Re: Landline problem

Indeed Plusnet needed to pass the issue over to BTOR but usually they are three working days to fix.

Your own work here significantly helped profile the issue - there were a number of other possible scenarios which might have taken longer to locate and resolve.

Re: Landline problem

Yes, all sorted out within a couple of hours, the whole experience brought home to me how attached I am to my landline and reliant too.

Posting here was invaluable, I'm sure it wouldn't have been sorted out so quickly otherwise. Many thanks once again.
