@EDD1 The simple answer is yes. Which Master socket do you have - one with a single socket , or one of the newer dual socket ones?

In which case, just plug the phone into the 'phone' socket and you're good to go.

Before you buy a new BT phone, are you aware that the UK phone system is being switched off at the end of 2025 ?
BT Publish UK Regional Rollout Schedule for Digital Voice
Rather than spending money on a soon to become obsolete phone to plug into the BT socket (for maybe 18 months), you might want to consider future-proofing your purchase with the replacement technology - a "VoIP" telephone, which plugs into your broadband router, and your voice calls are made over the internet, but otherwise the handset works the same as now.

@EDD1 you say you have "fibre". Presumably you mean FTTC, i.e. Fibre To The Cabinet, with a copper cable into your house.
As noted above there's a transition to Digital voice planned, do you even have a phone service on the line, it's possible you don't. PlusNet are phasing out phone services anyway.
Try ands borrow a phone from a friend/neighbour and plug it in. If you get a dial tone call 17070 which is a test number that will also conform the phone number assigned.
