IPv6 when?

Re: IPv6 when?

I stumbled across a presentation called BT 21CN Network IPv6 Transformation given to an IPv6 Conference in Ghent, Belgium, in December 2010.
This suggests that 20CN exchanges will employ IPv6 in IPv4 tunnelling, rather than a more native IPv6 support on 21CN exchanges. Obviously this conference presentation should not be considered authoritative.
Can someone at Plusnet provide an authoritative statement regarding IPv6 support on 20CN exchanges?

Re: IPv6 when?

Aren't we tunnelled through to the PN gateways anyway? When I was on the RIN trial I was seeing a load of intermediate hops that I don't see now.

The slide in the presentation for 20CN BB
"IPSC PTA infrastructure"
Plusnet use the IPSC L2TP infrastructure.  End-User IPv6 & IPv4 packets are tunnelled to Plusnet using IPv4

Thank you for the reply.

Surely you mean L2TP rather than LT2P.

Interesting slide. For the 20CN case will end users have to create their own PN prefix+interface ID unicast address(es) as we won't have access to dhcp6? The other interesting bit is the statement that 6to4 tunnels will be required between the EU (End User?) and the TMAN (wossat?). Does the TMAN exist within BT or PN's infrastructure - ie who will the EU have to talk to to set this up and get support for?

Re: IPv6 when?

TMAN is the BT Retail Broadband Platform
With Plusnet it will be native IPv6 with dual stacks on the CPE.  This is what we're currently testing in an L2TP environment.  Prefix Delegation will occur after PPP is up, IPV6CP will get the WAN up then DHCPv6 and ICMPv6 will do the rest.

Yeah there will, no dates set yet though but we'll be looking for a few triallists so if you already have IPv6 capable hardware the best place to let us know is this thread and we'll keep you updated when it's nearer the time.

I've got a Cisco 877 sat here ready-and-waiting for you to flick the switch so do please count me in for consideration!

Re: IPv6 when?

Would be happy to help with any trial here - not sure if current router will have an update available to support IPv6 (on FTTC trial with a netgear WNR1000v3 - it does not at the moment from what I can see) but I can easily enough set up a spare box with linux to replace it if not.

Re: IPv6 when?

BTW - an obvious target date would be to have the trial up and running well in time for global IPv6 Day on 8th June

That was Carl's stated intent (earlier in the thread).

Re: IPv6 when?

I'll add my name to the group interested in the IPv6 trial, I'm currently using a Cisco 837 and a 6 to 4 relay.

Moderators note
I've split off the IPV6 address allocation discussion to it's own thread, on request

As I was the first to raise the question about the trial could you check I'm on your list just in case?
