Early Termination Because FTTP Available From Virgin

Currently have contract until Feb '26 with Fibre (80) at £31.28

Virgin have offered us £50 credit if we switch to their FTTP (500)

OpenReach give no indication of availability timeframe. CityFibre also available but have heard less impressive reviews.

Is there an online calculator? I've found the formula but my brain turns to sludge where maths are involved!

@TaargusTaargus

You have to phone in to get a termination price.

If CityFibre are available have you had a look at Zen Internet? Well regarded ISP with a highly rated router.

Moving will cost you your copper landline.

@TaargusTaargus There is no online calculator, and to get an accurate figure, you would need to call Custoner Options (0800 013 2632).

What reviews have read about CF - my ISP prefers them over OR - if they are available, and as a 'premium'/niche supplier, they don't go for dodgy operators - a bad reflection on them if things go pear-shaped.

Re: Early Termination Because FTTP Available From Virgin

When I signed up with Zen last summer their prices using CF were considerably lower than their equivalent product via OR infrastructrure. Although if CF is available that is what they will use. This means that they are comparable with PN prices. They also provide a service where the upstream speed is the same as downstream.

I must admit I have not seen the poor reviews you have ( a few of my neighbours are also on CF although not necessarily via Zen). My installation went without a hitch despite a "difficult" duct feed. The router is good (allows separate 2.4 and 5 bands if you need them and a lot more besides, including support for their digital voice product and other VOIP using the Fon port on the router if you want to retain a landline and use your phone existing equipment  No mid term price rises and the support is in Rochdale.

Not strictly true, at least when CityFibre are the network provider.

I had Zen via CF installed 3 months ago, their "300 Mbps synchronous" service, which I don't think they are offering any more.

My understanding at the time was that CF provisions one of two speeds: 100 or 900Mbps. So, if the end user customer orders a speed of 100 or less from their ISP, CF provide a 100 capable line and if anything above 100 is ordered then a 900Mbps synchronous capable circuit is provided.

Zen cap my download at the contracted 300, but not the upload - so I get 300Mbps down and 900 up.

How I am ever going to make use of that sort of upload speed is another question though!

Re: Early Termination Because FTTP Available From Virgin

I have just checked around here and Zen via CF offer 105, 500, 910 and 2300 download speeds (minimum guaranteed download speeds being 50% of those except for 1300 for the highest product) with the same as estimated upload speeds. So here, at any rate the offerings are effectively sychronomous.  But it might be different elsewhere.

I am on Zen via CF and, similarly to you, my upload speed on my 100 download package is around 360 which I am unlikely to need. Zen keep offering me upgrades and so I think my line is capable of higher speeds if I so desire and, if I recall, the installer said at the time that the ONT provided was one capable of much higher speeds.
