This will sound like a silly question but not switched provider in years!
Our Plusnet contract is up on 1st Feb… should we start new provider then or on 2nd please?

Whilst you can ask for a specific date, in truth the actual date is likely to be when Openreach have an engineer available around this date. You will already have made your last payment to Plusnet as it’s paid a month in advance so you might as well do it sooner than later. There will be no cancellation bill, just a reduction in the refund that you will be due.
Are you aware that on leaving your landline phone (if you want to keep it) will be changed to digital?

It’s how you define ‘charged’. There will be no money to pay.
You have paid for your service up until the 1st Feb. If you were to leave say 10 days before this date then the refund that you would be due for the 10 days after you left would be reduced by 10 days of early termination charges.
I hope this makes sense.
Be aware that if the transfer takes place close to your billing date then you will probably be charged for the next month even though you have left, due to the way that direct debits work. This will be refunded when your account is closed. If you cancel the direct debit before this is received there will be a delay before a cheque is raised
