Am I completely wrong to mention that OpenReach are removing all copper cable by the end of 2025. The effect of this is surely that when they remove the copper cable, regardless of how long your current contract has to run, in your area you will be forced to find an alternative to the current land line system.

Interesting that in the current 'renew' process I was offered a uswitch page with a lot of alternative ISP offers. Useful index of searchable ISP providers.

@rodneymf You are completely wrong - they are retiring the PSTN phone services and associated exchanges, but the copper cable in the vast majority of cases will remain in place. In any case, not all areas will be Full Fibre capable by then, so they would have to leave the cables in place for those still on ADSL/FTTC.
And yes, when the PSTN is switched off, you will need to find an alternative voice service solution.

Thought it's worth me noting that if a contract is renewed over the phone, it'll begin on the next billing date. If renewed online, then more often than not, it'll start the next working day as @Baldrick1 says.
Shame, as Gandalf was always one of the trusted contacts in the PN system.
IMO Gandalf still is highly regarded, I can't see why you think otherwise. But then again, I can't see what your beef is with pushing for a VoIP forum when it's already been explained that there isn't one because PN don't have such a service. As it happens there used to be a VoIP section when PN did run VoIP but it was closed sfter that VoIP service ended.

My post missed quoting the line where Gandalph told us he was moving jobs and not following posts as often as before. That's where the 'shame' you mentioned came from. A mistake on my part for not checking before sending it. No otherwise thinking involved.
And I'm not 'pushing' for a VoIP group as you put it, merely pointing out that there are several threads in different groups covering the same broad topic. I'm sure you have seen posts about renewing accounts, moving to broadband-only service and how to cope with the BT landline switchoff next year all of which could sensibly be covered in one group, the terms of which could be debated. VoIP is one possible way forward but there are others. It's a simple point and I'm not sure why you have a problem with it.
