BT FTTP to Plusnet FTTP switchover query

Returning to Plusnet after 2 years with BT (was FTTC to FTTP upgrade).

The BT FTTP service was fine. Can't fault it.   Only negative, is BT don't include the actual amount in the monthly billing notification emails.  ie. I have to log into BT website to check the bill, or install/use their phone app.

My Plusnet remote activation is tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me how long the outage may typically be between BT 'disconnecting' and Plusnet 'activating' the existing FTTP line?

eg. Minutes?  Hours?

Also does the switch usually occur at any specific time of day as I 'presume' remote activation is an 'automated' process not requiring any human intervention?

Thanks in advance.

Hey @bill888,

If all things go well with no hicks, the switch-over typically takes just a couple of minutes, allowing you to set up the plusnet router.

Re: BT FTTP to Plusnet FTTP switchover query

Fix

Plusnet activated this morning.  There was 5 hours down time in early hours of the morning.

01.00 hrs

Received email from BT advising they have received a request to stop Broadband service, and confirming a small early termination fee is due.  (BT sent me text message last week informing me of the ETC).   They will contact me about returning their Hub 2.

01.07 hrs

My Asus router log reported loss of internet connectivity at above time.  I updated the router with Plusnet login credentials after 2am when I happen to wake up.  No internet connectivity.

Around 3am

I logged into the Plusnet website, the status showed Activation was complete.....  I'm sure I didn't recall seeing this status less than an hour earlier, but I could be wrong.  Still no connectivity.  Went back to sleep.

05.58 hrs

Woke up and checked the Asus router.  Still no connectivity.  No text or emails from Plusnet.

Plugged new Hub 2 in for curiosity just after 6am.  I noticed it successfully connected using the default setup@plusdsl.net credentials, and moments later, it had retrieved my own username.  Upon auto reboot, there was internet connection. yipee

I reverted to using my Asus router and it connected to internet straight away.

6.12am

I discovered an email from Plusnet received at 06.07 advising broadband is ready to use, around the time I was fiddling with the Hub 2.

Ethernet speed test returns 518 mbps down and 72 mbps up, same as BT, using both Plusnet Hub 2 and my existing Asus router.

The three green LEDs on the single port Nokia baby ONT remained on, when making above observations.

Summary.

BT disconnected the FTTP service just after 1am.   Plusnet activated the service some time just after 6am.

Received a Plusnet Robot generated open Question ticket:

We are pleased to confirm that your broadband order has completed and is now ready to use, please connect and set your router up to the master socket to get online.
