Payment taken 10 days before service live? One third of a month overcharged

I've already been billed (on the 19th) for my fibre broadband yet the service isn't due to go live until the 30th. That's one third of a month paid for and not delivered. Doesn't seem right or fair to me. Is this standard practice?

@phin Is this the initial payment at order placement? If so, that will cover you for the first months use, from whatever date your connection actually goes live - you pay one month in advance for phone and broadband.

Fix

IIRC you pay for the first months service when you place the order. Your billing cycle will not start until the service goes live. So your advance payment covers a month from when your service goes live. If your service goes live in two stages e.g phone line first and broadband later, then your first invoice will have a credit for the period that broadband wasn't available
