Switching phone to VOIP

I have ordered FTTP, Openreach came and failed to install (couldn’t get line to house) I am getting someone to put an underground duct in (it might be few weeks) and get them back. The same day they switched off ADSL broadband and phone, contacted Plusnet (who were very good, had it back in 24 hours) they got broadband switch back but no phone. When you ring out or in number not recognized. Look like Openreach have pulled the plug at exchange.
My question is can I port the number now to VOIP provider without Plusnet switching the broadband off, I assume Plusnet do the porting and when does my 30 days start (I have been told they hold the number for 30 days when moving to full fibre)

When did you phone get switched off? Did you confirm with PN it has been "ceased"?
As you state you have 30 days to port the number but you do the work, not PN. You need to urgently look at VOIP providers and decide who you want to use. A&A seem to have a good repuatation, especially if you can use your mobile for out going calls.

If your line is "ceased" then some providers may not be able to port the number - their systems are not set up to work with ceased lines so say NO. A&A can and does support these - thye phone up to get a manual port done.
You may need to get equipment to get your landline phone working. Note also that VOIP doesn't work in power cuts unless you have power backup - the ONT, router and possibly phone.

I think you need to speak to Plusnet again and find out exactly what the status of your phone is now that they have reinstated the broadband, before you initiate any port to VOIP.
You say ADSL when referring to the broadband - is that what it was, and still is? ADSL broadband (and for that matter FTTC) is associated with the phone number and there is a danger that if you proceed to port your number then Plusnet will cease your reinstated broadband when the port goes through.
Have you tried dialing 17070 and listening to the message which should identify the phone number associated with the line. Is it still the old number or something else or nothing at all? When the line is ceased (on a move to full fibre) OR generally renumber the line but it is inactive.

A further likely complication is that if you do port the landline number to a VOIP provider it will almost certainly terminate your reinstated broadband line, definitely if you are on ADSL. So you really do need to speak URGENTLY to PlusNet and find out the exact status of it.

im a tad confused here as to what's happened!
When Plusnet process a move to FTTP they generate two orders on Openreach , one an FTTP install and a 2nd a cease order for the existing landline. The 2nd order isn't actually placed though, its held on PNs systems until the FTTP order completion is received from Openreach.
So since OR didn't complete the FTTP install the cease order should not have been released and I suspect it hasn't! If it had , then there's no way they could have got Openreach to reactivate ADSL so quickly!
So what's really happened to the phone and ADSL service , only Plusnet know...

Really appreciate everybody's advice, I going to ring plusnet tomorrow and try to speak to the agent who reinstated it.
I do feel if I did port the number I would loose the broadband, from what you are saying the broadband account and the phone number are linked. I’m hoping 30 day clock is not ticking.
Thanks
