BT hub firmware updates

been using BT router for years - ok but seems to be ageing.  Checked today to find firmware last updated in 2018 ! despite suggestion elsewhere on here that BT will update automatically even if Plusnet user.  After over a week offline last autumn I was promised a Plusnet router gratis as I've been signed up since last century - still waiting - no - gave up waiting last year.  Hoping BT will fibre me up soon but they are vague.  Can this hub be updated ?

Re: BT hub firmware updates

@chips

BT Hubs would not kept up to date by plusnet, it would be because the BT Hub was still being managed by BT's TR69/CWMP system which would have been contactable via the plusnet network.

2018 firmware would be for a very old Hub and by now it could be BT no longer support or supply that Hub model. Which BT Hub is it?

I would say Plusnet TR69/CWMP systems are only configured to support plusnet supplied hubs.

If you were promised plusnet hub why don't you request another one?

It is Openreach who provide the Full Fibre infrastructure to plusnet, you can check the status here

Re: BT hub firmware updates

Thanks for getting back.  I hadn't thought of BT dropping support. Long story (Say 4.5 hours) I've now got a newer Hub working. This be Smarthub 2 and the previous owner had changed password - but with a fair bit of brainpain and guesswork it has now connected to all devices.  This one's firmware dates to 2021 - a good jump forward so hopeful - time will tell if it updates.  As to following up plusnet's promise of a hub I'm just not that pushy - broken promises and ending support - starts with santa Claus and continues with Labour Government - it becomes intime the norm.  Plus.net was excellent twenty years ago - went through an awful patch when BT stuck its oar in - and seems to be improving again.  My problems generally and regularly occur when Plus and BT pass the buck over connection failure - hence the 10 day outage last year - why they can't co-operate is beyond me.  Anyhow thanks for a timely nudge: I expect I'll be back fairly soon - that's life, Cheers DS

OK - looks like it just needed a bit of 'running-in' time.😉
