@andyt1970 That set-up is not going to be great, although as you said, it's worked up to now. I'm no telecoms/networking expert, so instead of possibly giving you duff advice, I'd wait and see if @RealAleMadrid or @Dan_the_Van have any ideas - they are a bit cleverer than me on that angle.
I haven't looked back at the WAN logs, but IIRC, they were showing total loss of service?

Hi @andyt1970
The demarcation point for a phone line is indeed the Master Socket and the householder is responsible for any internal wiring. Is that a picture of your master socket you posted as it is not the latest model and I was under the impression Openreach replaced Master Sockets with a NTC 5c model when they visited a property.
Without seeing all your wiring it is hard to make an exact suggestion but basically you have two options, which have been told to you by the Openreach Technician.
1). From the master socket have a single cable with preferably only two wires connected to pin 2 and 5 behind the faceplate of the master socket and run to an extension socket. Here you use a ADSL/VDSL* inline filter dongle. Using a fully wired extension cable between the master and extension socket can introduce noise into the phone line due to unterminated wires within the cable.
2) Replace the master socket faceplate with a incorporated ADSL/VDSL filter and run two cables to you flat. DSL and Phone. I would expect this would require you speaking to your landlord who may not want cables everywhere.
There is lots of help online regarding this topic
Intermittent line drops is possible the worst fault to fix, it took nearly three months in my last house, the fault was finally fixed when I was switch to a different wire pair from the green cabinet to the exchange.
An observation of mine is there is no concept of fault history with Openreach, each fault is attended as if it's the first visit.
Dan
* ADSL/VDSL filter purpose is to remove the DSL signal from the telephone handset, so do not be concerned yours just says ADSL.

Hiya @jab1 ignore that! My laptop track pad was on one and had a mind of it's own, pressing random things on my screen 😣.
The fix has been removed 😊

Hi all,
Just got disconnected again
And Dan_the_Van - yes that is the master socket downstairs just inside the hall near front door (only socket).

Hiya @andyt1970, thanks for getting back to us with an update. I am sorry for the issues with your service.
Whilst I wouldn't recommend an extended DSL cable as it's not uncommon for these to cause issues, another suggestion would be to have your router in the master socket and to then have power line adaptors to connect your PC/ TV.

Thanks all. Earlier reply by Dan_the_Van is a bit over my head, although I am annoyed Openreach didn't change my Master socket front
LaurenB So I'd start by plugging the microfilter into the master socket downstairs, then plug end of ADSL router cable into one hole and existing telephone extension lead into other hole, then plug router into the only power socket (single) 3 feet away, then plug in a power line adaptor upstairs and then connect ethernet cable from that into back of my desktop PC? And also one near smart TV and connect same way?
Only problem is that we use a 6 way surge power extension lead in top left of lounge (that we plug PC, monitor, router, external hard drives into) that terminates in plug going into socket on wall (behind TV) in top right of lounge. I though these power line adaptors must be plugged into a single power socket and not an extension lead. Real shame
Looked at this product but hen read about not plugging into extension lead power sockets.

Forgot to add someone rang me on landline and when I answered it was so crackly then settled down during call. Afterwards I unplugged every connection, gently blew into each "hole" and reconnected everything up, worked for an hour - then got disconnected again while typing this

Yep, you've had another total disconnect - I suggest you get back to PN, although hopefully one of the Help Team will spot this.

Girlfriend just rung from her mums house coincidentally when my broadband had "dropped" and the router light was orange, and said the her call didn't go through, worrying.
Whenever I pick up the phone when it's dropped, the line sounds normal with a dialling tone.
I need a working telephone line over broadband (but need both) as her mum is being rushed to hospital right now and we're on PAYG mobiles. Can this get any worse

Right then, moved router downstairs, plugged micro-filter into TEST socket with grey ADSL cable coming out and into router and telephone extension lead coming out of other hole on micro filter (telephone extension lead runs upstairs as before). Found a TP-Link wi-fi xtender and plugged ethernet cable from back of PC into this (that was in router) and plugged into 6 way surge protection lead, seems fine so far, touch wood. Works laptop using wi-fi signal, but very slow compared to when it was on same desk as desktop PC and router. Will leave it this way in test socket for next 48 hours until someone advises me to plug into normal Master socket switch.
Yes, I shouldn't plug wi-fi extender into 6 way power extension lead but have no choice.
